Over the years in this field, working with people of all ages, in multiple settings, I use family systems, evidenced based TF-CBT, child centered & also a mind, body approach.
We all feel a heavy heart at one time, usually many times in our lives, and want to feel the weight lifted, find balance and hope, confidence and some ease, a lightened heart. Your looking for a provider shows your wisdom and strength, not weakness. Know that the work you do for you trickles down to those you love, those important to you. There is no shame in seeking help with sorting out one’s challenges with an objective, trained individual, who listens, supports, reflects, empowers, and motivates with information, new perspectives and coping skills to help navigate through difficulties losses and the uncertainties.

in Clinical Psychology, I draw on Relational, Family Systems Theory, Jungian, Career Development and Cognitively-Oriented principles.
If you are experiencing a roadblock or facing a potentially new path or way to live, our work together would include reframing the roadblock as a potential crossroads in which neglected parts of yourself could be explored so as to live a life of greater authenticity, integrity and wholeness. With over 20 years experience, I specialize in "transitions" or what many people experience as either blocks or bridges in their lives as well as the stress that accompanies them. Even good change can be stressful and in some languages, the word for crisis actually means "opportunity."

If you are considering therapy, it is likely that something significant in your life is not going the way you want it to, and you've not been able to change or resolve it on your own. It may be a troubled relationship, stress related to job/school/ family situations, the lingering effects of past or recent traumas–or something else–and involve feelings of worry, sadness, anger, distrust, frustration, loneliness or low self-esteem. If you want things to be different, change is possible. Careful, attentive therapy can help you find relief from negative feelings, improve relationships and problem-solving, and build hope for the future.

I utilize a family systems approach, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and person-centered therapy.
Our lives are complex and stressful in today's world. The way we react to these stressors determines how we think about ourselves and the world. It's important to examine the origin of these thoughts and behaviors. In therapy, we explore your family of origin intergenerationally and develop connections from the past to the present. These include addictions, faulty thinking, and family roles. By exploring patterns that no longer work, we can collaborate and find better solutions.I provide a warm and safe space and treat you non-judgmentally and with respect and dignity.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
