The most important element of my approach is the relationship with the person.
33 years of experience. Doctoral education. In person. Local provider. Google reviews. Providing caring and practical assistance for those who need it most is my main focus. Each person has unique circumstances and needs so I work to ensure that I take the time necessary to fully understand you and the issues that have brought you in. With this comprehensive understanding of you and the specific issues we can work together to not only relieve the current problem, but also reduce the likelihood of it reoccurring.

Are you seeking a happier life? Sometimes we realize that our way of handling challenges is just not working. Major loss or life changes are hard. For some of us, the disconnection we experience with loved ones actually prevents us from feeling loved. Maybe you are a parent with a child that struggles, and you’re just not sure what else to do. Therapy can help with personal and relationship challenges. Therapy can give you the tools and strategies to help you live the life you want and and the life you deserve.

During my training, I served in the Relationship Recovery / Divorce Care ministry, and as a college counselor at Cairn University.
My counseling is focused on individuals and relationships. I have worked with many who have experienced abuse whether that is verbal, emotional, physical, or spiritual. I have witnessed the growth and recovery of many as they work through the grief and loss of loved ones, values, boundary issues, or well-being caused by separation, divorce, illness, death, or trauma. I find it fulfilling to work with clients regarding their academic or career choices and circumstances, and to assist them with realizing and showcasing their abilities and strengths.

I have been working in the field of psychology since 1995 and have vast experience working with clients of all ages and with challenging issues. I believe that the key to successful therapy begins with an empathetic and sincere relationship between the client and therapist. My approach is somewhat eclectic, meaning I tailor my approach to meet the needs of my clients. I employ a biopsychosocial model coupled with psychoeducation, humor and cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal therapy as a foundation. As a former Division I athlete, I am sensitive to the challenges athletes face and also practice sports psychology.

Feeling able to connect and communicate is the foundation of any relationship. The need to feel heard and understood is universal to all people. The relationship between the client and the therapist is a very unique one. I believe that the therapeutic process is a collaborative one in which the client and the therapist both take active roles. The therapist provides a safe, nonjudgmental and nurturing environment in which the client is able to better understand who they are, what has brought them to this point in their life, and where they would like to see themselves in the future.

I believe the therapeutic relationship can profoundly impact the heart, mind, body & soul.
Poet Mary Oliver said "Are you breathing just a little & calling it a life?" Pursuing wellness can be hard. Discovering that living everyday life doesn't have to feel like survival. I am here to hold space for you. To hold space for all parts of you. Without judgment. Without urgency. Space for the expected & the unexpected. Space to discover the value of curiosity, compassion, & connection.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
