As a clinical psychologist with over 30+ years of experience, I believe the purpose of therapy is to work together to face issues until they are resolved. It is important to feel some relief. As a good listener I have strong empathetic skills. I provide a warm, accepting and non-judgmental setting where a positive alliance can be formed. Therapy is a place to feel understood, to unload, share, but is also result oriented. Therefore, my approach is interactive. I work with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples.

It has been a very challenging couple of years and many things in our personal lives have changed. Getting back to normal life may seem difficult. This can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms and diminished self esteem. I specialize in working with anxiety and depression in individual adults and couples. Guiding others has always been a passion of mine from an early age. As I got older, the passion became stronger and pushed me into many different volunteer positions. My desire to help facilitate change crossed paths with my love for volleyball and led me to Costa Rica on mission trips. It was there, in Costa Rica, I knew I was being called to work with people on a more intimate level as my life’s work. Now, I am a Licensed Social Worker. I earned my Masters Degree at New York University. I have worked closely with children, adolescents and adults as dealing with everyday stressors and anxieties to mental health diagnoses.

Many teens today lack the coping skills that are necessary to address life’s ups and downs. They often feel disconnected emotionally, and are unable to handle stress, peer and relationship issues, or the school, college, or work environment. When a teen is struggling with academics, they receive tutoring or support to develop the skills they need to succeed. Emotional health is no different. Teens need tools to help them regulate their emotions, develop connections with others, and create a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle. You can find both my books on Amazon, Mental Health Uncensored: 10 Foundations Every Parent Needs To Know

With nearly two decades of clinical experience, I understand how overwhelming it may feel to begin the treatment process. Therefore, it is my hope to create a safe and comfortable environment for each of my clients, and to build a trusting therapeutic relationship, to support their healing and growth. I primarily practice from a CBT framework and support my clients in creating an awareness around their limiting beliefs, thoughts and feelings, and reframing those that are not serving them. As both an LCSW and NTP, I also view each of my clients through a holistic lens which places value on the mind-body connection.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
