My professional journey with DBT brings an authentic mix of expertise and real-life understanding.
On the outside you’re trying to convey to the world that you’re fine, but beneath that slick surface there might be unwelcome guests like anxiety, addiction, or mood disorders, stealthily chipping away at your peace. It's a story many people share, yet few openly discuss. I'm here to tell you, it's okay not to have it all together all the time, and more importantly, I'm here to help you tackle these challenges. You’re not alone anymore.

As a professional trained in both DBT and psychodynamic theory, I can help you recognize unhealthy patterns while creating new healthier ones, strengthen communication with others, be more mindful, and learn how to regulate emotions.
Life can include a fair number of stressors and sometimes one needs a helping hand. Seeking guidance through life’s ups and downs or feelings of being stuck are normal. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and although I am Psychodynamic trained, I utilize an eclectic approach in my work. I truly believe that the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone for progress and growth throughout treatment. I am dedicated to encouraging and empowering clients in a safe space and committed to working with the client to achieve their goals, create healthy boundaries, and enhance mental well-being.

I try to have an approach that is inviting, authentic, and non-judgmental. I believe that therapy should allow the clients to have autonomy within sessions while maintaining focus on their treatment goals. I typically integrate DBT, CBT, SFBT, Mindfulness Based, and Motivational Interviewing approaches; but will engage in an approach best fit to the client in front of me. My goals as a clinician are to promote a sense of autonomy and foster resilience in each individual I work with. My hope is that I can serve as a source of support and encouragement, walking alongside clients as they grow, change, and move forward in life.

It can be difficult navigating the many challenges life throws at you, and it is easy to get stuck in a negative cycle of thinking, feeling and behaving. It is my goal to build a safe space through our trusted relationship, so that you are able to gain better awareness of areas that are keeping you stuck. I believe that together we can move towards creating a life that is not necessarily free from suffering but one that is empowering so that whatever challenge comes your way you have the effective tools and the skills to get through life’s hurdles and come out stronger.

I believe that each individual is capable of growth and change. Most of the time clients accomplish this by using the strengths they already have. When facing depression, anxiety, life changes and stress it can be very difficult to see a solution on your own. It may be especially difficult for men or young people to enter therapy for the first time. I understand this and work with you to make the process as comfortable as possible. Together we can be partners on your journey to emotional wellness.

My ideal client is someone diagnosed with both mental health and substance abuse issues. In our sessions, we delve into whether the substance abuse pattern is related to their mental health symptoms or if the psychiatric condition contributes to increased substance abuse. Over my 20+ years of experience in the mental health and substance abuse field, I've found it rewarding to help clients explore and implement evidence-based clinical interventions while offering support during their early recovery journey.

My ideal clients are women who've recently realized they've suffered from narcissistic abuse. These brave individuals seek therapy whilst feeling sad, confused, scared, and angry, torn between the truth and the illusion of their past relationships. At first, they struggle to identify and express their needs due to codependency. My goal is to provide compassionate support and guidance to help them navigate this challenging journey towards healing and self-discovery.

Not accepting new clients
She utilizes a combination of dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy to assist clients with finding a balance between acceptance and change.
Do you ever feel stuck, as if despite your efforts you feel as though you can't move forward in your life? Many things get in the way of our ability to achieve our goals. Struggles with depression, anxiety, self judgement, fear, trauma, and addiction all have a tendency to paralyze us. We often are left feeling hopeless and emotionally drained. Through therapy we allow ourselves to find solutions in areas that feel like a dead end. By exploring the barriers that stand in our way, we can build self awareness, skills and confidence to overcome any obstacle.

Hi! I'm James. Over the last decade I’ve seen good results helping people who feel that their life just recently “fell off track” even if they did not expect therapy to be the answer. I’ve tried to nurture this niche of helping those emotionally effected by high pressure stress. I have helped individuals address low mood, depression, anxiety, and low life-satisfaction. I have also worked with children and families to expand communication skills and patterns, improve relationships, increase feelings of security, and optimize being accurately understood.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
