I am trained in psychodynamic, EMDR and sensorimotor approaches, and tailor treatment according to your needs/preferences.
In addition to working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, or difficulties in their relationships, I have worked for many years with women and men who have experienced childhood sexual, physical or emotional abuse, or adult sexual assault. I have learned from listening to their stories that recurring thoughts and images about the trauma, or less conscious feelings such as fear and worthlessness, or difficulties letting anyone get close, can persist, even if it happened long ago. My focus in therapy is to help you work through these experiences so they no longer prevent you from living more fully in your present life.

I do this using various therapeutic techniques, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy and Psychodynamic.
There are times when we are uncertain how to respond to issues, we may become overwhelmed by having to make decisions or we may feel depleted because we tried everything possible but the problem(s) persist and seem to grow. We may also feel isolated as our personal and professional relationships become conflicted. We might be responding to problems never before experienced, or we may lack the knowledge experience and skills to be objective to find a solution. Sometimes we may not have had role models or personal, academic or professional mentors to help guide us through various situations.

Some common interventions include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Strengths Based Approach, Family Systems Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy.
Therapy is not one size fits all and it is not a one person show. I focus on collaborating with clients to identify and work towards their goals. Sessions are kept compassionate and genuine. It is essential to ensure that sessions are a place where clients can feel comfortable discussing even the most sensitive of topics in a judgment free space. The goal is to help clients revive and thrive!

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
