So many of us struggle in life, but the worst part is, we struggle in silence. I’m here to listen to whatever part of your story you want to share, whether it’s your past, your present or everything in between. I hope through listening I can help guide you to what you already know within yourself, but might not be able to see right now. Wherever you are in your journey in life, I’d like to help you through the journey.

Taking the first step towards therapy can be a difficult process. As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. We can't change difficult situations of the past. We can work together to understand and resolve challenges in life. By applying integrative, holistic therapy approaches and techniques, we will identify behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more meaningful life. If you're looking for guidance through a challenging situation, I will help you to achieve your goals.

I am interested in helping people explore and confront self-defeating thoughts and behaviors. My goal is to provide a warm, respectful, and relaxed environment to help you uncover, process, and release the roots of emotional pain, and to create pathways for more joy, resiliency, and meaning in life. As healing unfolds and insights deepen, old patterns make way for a new quality of life - for better relationships with others and with your self. The techniques I use in treatment vary, while my commitment is always geared towards the needs and goals that we establish together in treatment.

I focus on the Cognitive Behavioral approach, but often will adjust to a more eclectic approach to meet the individual needs of each client. I believe it is crucial to have multiple modalities of therapy when working to achieve positive change. I incorporate a form of Biofeedback, called Neurofeedback. Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, can improve the way you or your child’s brain functions. It’s a process of identifying target areas of the brain that can benefit from cognitive training. During training I monitor your brain’s activity while you learn new behaviors through a visual and auditory reward system.

I also have experience working with clients struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, substance use, interpersonal conflict, trauma, and difficult life transitions.
Starting therapy can be a scary journey, but I’m here to provide you with a safe environment to discuss all of the issues and concerns you’ve been bottling up inside. Change only happens when we challenge ourselves to venture outside of our comfort zone, and I’m here to walk with you every step of the way. I incorporate the principles of mindfulness and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in all of my sessions as I believe living in the present moment helps improve our connection with self, others, and the world around us.

Are you grappling with alcohol or drug use? Do you often tell yourself, "That's it, I will not use drugs or alcohol again!" only to find yourself using these substances repeatedly? Are your friends, family and partners encouraging you to cut down on your substance use/alcohol or completely quit using? If the answer is yes, we can work together towards continued abstinence from that substance.

Everyone thinks you have it all together. You appear confident, happy and organized. You seem to have a good life. But your reality is that you're overwhelmed and you may feel like you're barely keeping it together. That voice inside of you is constantly telling you that you aren't good enough. You probably feel like you're taking care of everyone else all of the time - but never yourself. Maybe you've even been drinking too much to try to take the edge off sometimes. What you've tried to feel better doesn't seem to help. All you know is that you're exhausted, unhappy and don't know what to do anymore. Does this sound like you?

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
