How are alcohol or other drugs showing up in your life? Anxiety and depression can be contributing factors and/or consequences. Maybe you're questioning if you have a problem, or you are in early recovery and want support to maintain your sobriety. You might feel discouraged when you break promises to yourself to cut back or stop. Trying to hide your use from family and friends can be exhausting. Sometimes habits turn into patterns that are hard to break despite your best intentions. Unresolved trauma can make recovery challenging.

Starting therapy can be an overwhelming task, but I hope I can help make this step seem a little more manageable. I work with adolescents and adults ages 13+. I specialize in anxiety, depression, perinatal and postpartum mental health, trauma, and addictions. I don't believe therapy is "one size fits all", and I strive to work with the client to find the best interventions to help meet their goals. I utilize a strengths-based approach along with cognitive behavioral interventions and motivational strategies.

My professional experience includes working with individuals struggling with challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, self esteem issues, adjustment disorders and family conflict.
One of the hardest steps in the therapeutic process is this right here.. reaching out for help, for change. My role as a psychotherapist is to collectively work together to establish and meet personal goals in a safe, supportive environment that fosters healing and growth. I aim to provide clients the opportunity to explore and express their feelings to make life long changes that they ultimately feel good about. It is never too late to make a change or to begin the healing process.

My clinical experience includes treating issues around abuses, impulse disorders, anxiety, PTSD, depression, and mood disorders.
Is your child pushing your buttons? Panicking you about dangerous behaviors? Are your current relationships frustrating you? There are many reasons to call a therapist, relationships are not as satisfying or fulfilling as they once were, your children are acting out or struggling with transitional periods in there lives or maybe you or someone you know is suffering with anxiety or depression. Regardless of the reason for that first call I believe my work is relevant to you and your family. I have almost twenty years clinical experience working with difficult acting out adolescents, young adults, and their families.

Something doesn't feel right and you want things to get better. You feel paralyzed by sadness or worry, or something from your past seems to be haunting you. You are becoming more withdrawn, feeling disconnected, or have problems concentrating at times. Or perhaps you have racing thoughts and feel overwhelmed, as if your emotions are difficult to control. You are unhappy in your relationships, or maybe you are struggling to adjust to a life transition. Perhaps you are a parent and you're worried about changes in your child or adolescent's mood and behavior.

Most common areas of treatment are ADHD, strong-willed children and school problems, anxiety and mood disorders in adolescence and adulthood from depression to anxiety.
I have a great deal of experience using evidence based practices and techniques geared towards improving the lives and happiness of clients. I emphasize helping clients be more aware of their common thought patterns and to modify their ways of thinking and emotions to better promote feelings of well being. Focusing on the present is more conducive to well being than being consumed by the past or worries about the future. Helping clients control what they can is the key.and inevitably behavior will change as well.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
