I believe good counseling starts with developing an authentic relationship based on trust and genuine caring. I think of our work as sitting side by side at a large table. Whatever problems, memories or feelings you put on the table, it's my job to help you examine them, gain insight, and understand patterns and connections. Together we will help you develop a more integrated story and healthier ways of coping and relating. This kind of collaborative counseling is work I love and I look forward to starting the process with you.

If you are experiencing chronic pain, a lot of energy is spent just to "get through the day". That energy could be put to better use to achieve your goals, enrich your life and enjoy it. Neck and back pain, TMI, IBS, eczema, joint pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and autoimmune disorders have underlying emotional and psychological roots and most medical doctors don't pay attention to those "vitals". It often results in misdiagnosis and unsustainable treatments that bring temporary or no relief. It leaves you feeling misunderstood, frustrated with endless appointments, hopeless, lonely & desperate to try anything to feel better.

If you often feel taken for granted, resentful, emotionally exhausted, under-appreciated, or left feeling guilty when saying no to others it is likely that your boundaries are often crossed. Do you often find yourself over-explaining, feeling guilty if people are disappointed with you or not wanting to rock the boat? One of the most painful tasks in relationships is setting and maintaining healthy boundaries. We all have an internal gauge for how much to give or take. Nonetheless, when we were raised on not having emotional needs, setting boundaries becomes very taxing and confusing because we learned how to hide our feelings.

If you are feeling fearful of disappointing people, overcome by your emotions, or super aware of your surroundings, life can feel exhausting. Maybe you've been told "You're too sensitive", leaving you feeling judged. This can make you feel flawed, leaving you anxious and in constant fear. These are some of the difficulties Highly Sensitive People (HSP) experience. Life is full of rigid judgments, however, it’s in the gray space that we grow and explore. Society pressures us to conform, particularly when it comes to gender + sexuality. I am a dedicated advocate for LGBTQIA+ individuals who are exploring multiple aspects of identity.

Are you overly attentive to other people's moods/feelings? Is it difficult to trust others? Do you often feel not good enough? Is it difficult to know what you want because you worry so much about what is expected of you? Do you experience guilt often? Do you resist asking for help or mentorship due to fear of being criticized or judged? Is it very difficult to ask for what you need in relationships? Feel the need to fix or manage your closest relationships? Carrying resentment, avoiding conflict and fear of rejection is heavy, isolating, disempowering and keeps you stuck in a vicious shame inducing cycle.

Imagine your life as a bookshelf: It may feel like the “TRAUMA” book is the only one on your shelf. It’s big and heavy and it hurts to think about opening it. In our work together you will learn how to build a library full of rich life experiences around what you’ve already survived. You won’t have to numb the pain. You won’t have to minimize what you feel to make others comfortable. You will get to process your traumas and feel present for the first time in a long time, or maybe in your life.

In my practice, I work closely with my clients to help them sort through their challenges at hand. I treat adults who may be facing stressful life transitions or struggling to cope with feelings of depression or anxiety. Every person has unique needs and personality, which are considered in developing a course of treatment. Helping clients develop insight to patterns of thinking and relating to others can offer clarity and hope. At times, utilizing skill-development tools can provide additional success in reducing stress, providing strategies for parenting challenges, or resolving relationship conflict.

Life is about transition. And with each transition comes challenges. Some are easy and some more difficult to manage.
Sometimes the challenge comes in the form of a failed relationship, sometimes we lose a loved one and feel the desolation and loneliness of dealing with life's challenges alone, sometimes anxiety takes over and renders us less capable of managing our daily responsibilities. Sometimes we act in ways that even we do not fully understand or that moves us further and further away from success, happiness and serenity.

It is often quite difficult to make that first phone call requesting therapy. Usually that call is precipitated by the realization that possibly, " I don't have to face my difficulties alone" and "just maybe, I can feel better sooner with some help". I always make an effort to help clients feel at ease and to clarify their needs. I work towards enabling clients to experience their strengths as they address their difficulties.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
