"A journey begins with a single step." And, you can only start where you are. I believe awareness, exploration, and communication of feelings is key to being connected with others as well as with ourselves. I work with children, adolescents, and adults in individual and group settings. I use a strengths-based approach and am trained in Internal Family Systems. I have experience with crisis work, long-term, and short-term therapy. We will start where you feel comfortable taking your "single step" and the journey will go at the pace we set together. You have all the answers- let me help you find them!

As social beings we want connection with others. Sometimes obstacles prevent us from these healthy connections. It is my belief that the task of looking inward and identifying (awareness) these obstacles is the first step to change. The second step is to embrace what we find (acceptance). Once we identify and accept what prevents us from feeling content, a sense of accountability settles in and enables change (action). My role is to work with you by exploring your thoughts/feelings from the perspective you've have adopted and provide you with alternative tools and an objective perspective to foster growth and transcendence.

Therapy assists in uncovering the true self. Learning how to recognize feelings enables people to understand themselves more effectively. During therapy individuals learn how to identify feelings and take control of their own lives. By learning how to pay attention to instincts and begin to challenge beliefs individuals can grow instead of stagnate. We promote personal growth and the establishment of healthy communication so our clients can achieve serenity within themselves.

TELE-HEALTH SESSIONS NOW AVAILABLE. I treat clients who are trying to overcome stress, depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, and relationship issues. I am committed to help you understand the meaning of your emotional pain and heal the wounds that block you from living the fulfilling life you want to live! Typically, clients come to me concerned about their place in life; unhappy with who they have become, and wanting more of a sense of direction, purpose, and meaning. I believe that individuals do their best to deal with their problems, but are hindered by coping strategies that have outlived their usefulness.

Is waking up in the morning so challenging that you can barely enjoy your cup of coffee? Maybe you get so bogged down by excessive worry or chronic health concerns that you just can’t sleep anymore. Perhaps you’ve had a recent loss and don’t know how to cope on a daily basis, or maybe your emotions fluctuate so much between extremes that you feel out of control. I know how coping with your day to day can be hard and it may feel like you want to curl up in a ball and escape until all your overwhelming challenges disappear.

If this is your situation, you may be suffering from Narcissistic Abuse Syndrome, a set of psychological and physical symptoms suffered by people living with narcissistic abuse.
Are you feeling confused, nerves frayed, your health deteriorating? Are you exhausted from walking on eggshells, desperately trying to keep the peace in your relationship? To others your partner is perfect. But living with their chaotic "I love you/I hate you" behavior has left you feeling trapped and hopeless.

My approach is a direct, action-oriented, supportive, and targeted form of psychotherapy. I prefer “doing” as well as talking and push hard for results. After several years in private practice along the central coast of California, I have relocated back to my roots in New Jersey. I truly love this profession and believe that is evident in my interactions with clients. I look forward to meeting and supporting you in creating the life you deserve.

My belief is one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. It takes courage to ask for help but the rewards of doing so can lead to a healthier life. Through collaboration, we will foster growth and healing through the use of empowerment. Using strengths-based, solution-focused strategies, we will work towards creating an individualized treatment plan that focuses on developing an understanding of the challenges you face and cultivating solutions that aid you in reaching your goals. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel empowered to make the changes necessary to grow.

I am honored that my clients share their deepest secrets with me every day. I am grateful for the trust they place in me and I value their need for confidentiality. I make an effort to listen to my clients and hear what they say to learn what they need to grow. Every client is a person who is much greater than their problem behavior or diagnosis. While I have extensive training in treating trauma and sexual behavior problems, I also have experience and training in treating other mental health problems such as: Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder, ADHD, and chemical as well as process addictions.

I'm moved by the longing of couples to be to be listened to with undivided attention, to be understood and accepted, to be seen in their virtues and appreciated, to be held with affection and delight, to be allowed to be themselves and shift from it's all about me to you need all the same things. Your criticism and force can step back when I help you care about your own wounds - that your partner can respect, but cannot heal for you. I walk with confounded parents to calm their reactions to their children's resistance. They feel ignored, failing to raise a caring and responsible son or daughter. Heart is heavy, values seem irrelevant. Unburden the heart so your children can hear your values, not your reactions. Couple and family difficulties have roots in old hurts where we managed with knee jerk reactions and attitudes of how things should be. I can help you hold perspective, where you value yourself when others discredit you, where you're open to feedback about what is not helpful without feeling criticized or angry. Therapy is not getting partners or children or peers to respond, it's being able to bring my values with conviction without being attached to the outcome

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
