It can be overwhelming when you know something in your life needs to change, but you don't know exactly what it is, how to get started, or who can help you take action. Losing hope can happen when you are stuck in the repeating cycle of destructive actions, negative thoughts, or painful emotions that don't seem to show any signs of improvement.

Do you ever feel: Confident on the outside, but your insides are filled with self-doubt . Wonder if these self-doubts are holding you back professionally and personally. Tired of being on edge, constantly anticipating the worst. Posses a strong inner critic inside your head beating you up. No matter how accomplished, it doesn't feel like it will ever be enough. Is the inside of your mind a hamster wheel of ruminating thoughts. Are your stuck in the same old patterns. that keep knocking on your door asking you to notice..it's time to make a different choice.

Offering in-person and virtual sessions! I come with a curiosity about attachment and early stages of development. My treatment approach is to help restore connection to yourself and your relationships through psychodynamic and trauma-informed therapies. Many people share how their negative beliefs and emotional discomfort can “feel stuck” in their mind and nervous system. I work with clients to resolve present day problems and longstanding patterns in their lives (anxiety, phobias, PTSD, Depression and so on.) through the integration of mind, body and brain processing techniques.

Among my areas of specialized training are Trauma/Complex Trauma, Perinatal Mental Health, Grief and Loss, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
While each of us will experience both expected and unexpected challenges throughout our lives, how we move through and process these obstacles can be tremendously impactful. It takes both courage and strength to reach out for help and I believe that this is where treatment truly begins. I treat each of my clients with respect, sensitivity and compassion while working to create an environment of trust and safety. Through individual and family sessions, I utilize my time with clients to build a strong therapeutic relationship in order to create client-centered goals, facilitate communication and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

I've had great success with EMDR therapy for general and specific anxieties, depression and trauma/ PTSD.
If you are struggling with personal, family or relationship issues, I offer a slightly different approach than you might expect. Contrary to how some view therapy, I believe there is far more "right" than "wrong" with people who seek help -- strengths allowing them to overcome seemingly overwhelming obstacles. I'm a therapist, but I'm also a parent and husband who makes plenty of mistakes. Luckily, perfection isn't necessary or even desirable, as it often takes only small, positive changes to yield significant benefits. Things can get better, sometimes quickly, if you begin taking steps in the right direction.

I primarily work on depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, religious trauma, first generation trauma, sexual difficulties, men's issues, sexual identity, and gender identity.
We all struggle; sometimes, it's too heavy to manage alone. We feel shame for our flaws and weaknesses. I know the feeling all too well. We are taught all of our lives that we must struggle on our own and that asking for help is the last and final resort. Ultimately, this leads to isolation and loneliness. However, I say no. There is no flaw in your character or judgment to reach out and say, "I need help." If you have experiences to process, pain to heal, or want a better understanding of yourself, you are more than welcome to reach out.

Life is hard and trauma of all kinds can wear down the strongest of us! But it is the strong who actually ask for help to deal with the challenges that life today throws at us. As a Cognitive-Behavioral therapist who practices from the Strengths Perspective, I work with my clients to identify those thoughts, behaviors and situations that might be holding them back, and implement a plan that will meet their goals. My goal is not to keep anyone in therapy for the rest of their lives, but rather to utilize therapy to overcome their challenges and achieve the inner peace they deserve.

My 36 years of specialization in the treatment of trauma and dissociation have helped me understand the pain and despair that are left in trauma's wake.
36+ years of working with people's suffering and struggle have taught me much about the loving and destructive things we can do to ourselves and others. I have also witnessed the incredible growth, healing, and freedom of people who put energy and sincere effort into understanding their experiences and learning how to uncover and grow their innate wisdom and strength

I primarily work within the realm of trauma, where I aspire to help those who have experienced significant life events that promote burdensome symptoms within them.
I strive to uphold cultural humility each day. Specifically, respecting all individuals and their values, beliefs, and opinions. A person’s background and culture highlights the wonderful qualities about them which deserve to be recognized and respected. I also strive to continue dismantling the stigma of mental health treatment each day. Struggling with mental health issues is one that is not only common, but also can be normal! I believe that the need to talk and process life with another person should not be stigmatized. Therefore, each day I work to promote a non-judgmental, friendly, accepting, and safe space for people.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
