My psychotherapy practice is grounded in post modern and psychodynamic theories and I apply trauma-informed lens, AEDP and cognitive behavioral therapies.
My style as a psychotherapist is engaging, warm, and reflective, and I place a great emphasis on building trust and connection as the foundation of my clinical work. From there, we can begin to explore difficult and sometimes painful life experiences and understand the emotions beneath it. By paying attention to these experiences and emotional signals, you can better understand yourself, both past and present. I believe, at birth, we are all hard wired for healing and self-repair but we need the support of trusting and caring relationships to access the powerful drive within ourselves to heal, grow, love, and flourish.

My motto is that progress is a process when implementing growth. Through exploration of thoughts and feelings, we will build a collaborative avenue for change. I utilize a patient-centered, strengths-based perspective, and trauma-informed lens. Through relationally-oriented psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, we will create a safe space filled with empathy, warmth, and challenge. We will partner together to better understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how you will build the tools to navigate both positive and difficult situations.

I employ a psychodynamic, person-centered approach, creating an environment that's warm and inviting.
Life often deviates from our expectations, burdening us to the brink of tears. Amidst hectic schedules, we desire nothingness but feel compelled to act. In these overwhelming times, we risk feeling overworked and undervalued, not just by others but by our own critical inner voice. This is where I come in, to guide you to be more curious and open to learning about yourself and what you want versus what everyone else wants. Here is where you can practice advocating for yourself and learning to make boundaries with yourself and those around you.

I can provide a broad range of therapies, including the study and treatment of trauma, personality disorders, mood disorders, and relationship issues, from psychodynamic/psychoanalytic treatment to neuroscience, as well as attachment-based and trauma-focused therapy.
Anyone can encounter unexpected situations and circumstances, be hurt, suffer, and feel frustrated, as if they have lost their way. During my 20 years in the apparel business industry, I, too, experienced challenges that ultimately led me to become a licensed psychoanalyst as a second career. I am a licensed psychoanalyst in New York and New Jersey. I accompany my clients in engaging their unresolved issues and internal conflicts and improving relationships. I am sensitive to multicultural and immigration matters as well as racial and career identities.

I have post-graduate training in couple, child, and family therapy, psychodynamic therapy, meditation techniques, trauma work, and have specialized training in the creative/performing arts and music.
Although some struggle is an inevitable part of life, there is the danger of accepting continual pain & struggle as "the way life is". This way of thinking can keep a person trapped, unable to even imagine what "better" would look like. Therapy offers a way out. For some, the traumas suffered in the past make it difficult to find happiness. Others may find themselves behaving in ways that leave them feeling worse, or once again in the same hurtful relationships. Some may be consumed with regrets about past mistakes, or filled with fear of the future, missing opportunities to live well in the present.

I would describe my approach as psychodynamic, experiential, and humanistic.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of psychological and interpersonal challenges in life, such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, life transition, relationship problems, and developmental disorders. I believe that psychotherapy is a process in which client and therapist collaborate in order to help client to improve self-understanding, overcome painful emotions, and discover new and widened perspectives about himself/herself, others, and life. I facilitate client's discovery and development of balanced and integrated personality so that he/she can transcend his/her psychological conflicts.

My specialties are addiction, mood disorders, initial assessment of neurological issues, ADD, trauma resolution, and stress-related conditions. I use Naltrexone and injectable Vivitrol to completely control urges. Examples of people I have helped with E.M.D.R.: a 50-year-old woman whose father verbally abused her and her sibling. Within one session, her trauma ended. A middle-aged male sustained a coma and severe injuries in a car accident. He regained his mental acuity to a mild degree, to continue his life. HEADAPP has improved those with brain impairment issues including stroke and ‘brain fog” from COVID.

I work with people suffering from various mental health conditions: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, mood disorders, or grieving a loss. In my 25 years as a therapist, I have worked with patients from diverse cultural, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds. In the recent years, my focus has been psychotherapy, support and psycho-education for people with acute or chronic medical conditions. The achievements of modern medicine do not replace attention to potentially devastating psychological effects of being sick, yet doctors often overlook or ignore them, leaving us to cope with fear, loneliness, and critical decisions to make.

I believe we all need unconditional support and compassionate understanding in navigating through life's unpredictable journey. I promote an empathic and positive therapeutic relationship between client and clinician that is respectful of the client's strengths and right to self-determination and encourages healing, self-awareness, and self-care. I also challenge the client to think out-of-the-box and explore the possibilities for growth and change in one's own thinking and circumstances. I am culturally sensitive and tailor therapy to the individual needs of the client as there is no one-size-fits-all therapeutic modality.

I am dedicated to working with clients whose personality and life experience were shaped by more than one culture: You might be an international student or in your 20's or 30's navigating anxiety. You might have been raised by 1st generation Asian parents or one and half or 2nd generation immigrants. You might be struggling in a relationship where you and your partner come from different cultural backgrounds not feeling understood. You are in the relationship but you both feel alone in the relationship. I love to help. I work with clients individually and as couples.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
