I am dedicated to working with clients whose personality and life experience were shaped by more than one culture: You might be an international student or in your 20's or 30's navigating anxiety. You might have been raised by 1st generation Asian parents or one and half or 2nd generation immigrants. You might be struggling in a relationship where you and your partner come from different cultural backgrounds not feeling understood. You are in the relationship but you both feel alone in the relationship. I love to help. I work with clients individually and as couples.

I offer Art Psychotherapy and Expressive Arts Therapy services to children, adolescents and families.
There are many stress factors in the lives of kids that can cause them to become sad, anxious, angry or confused such as illness, loss of a loved one, the separation or divorce of parents, or adjustment to a new environment. It is often difficult for these children to put their feelings and concerns into words. Art psychotherapy is a unique way of helping children find solutions to their emotional distress. Children love to make art - to tell stories, to play imaginatively, and to express feelings. Art psychotherapy uses children's natural delight in the creative process to gain a better understanding of their inner world.

I use board games, art, music, and sports, providing several avenues for the child to open up.
Therapy is weird. I get it. You are sharing your secrets with a stranger. The relationship between the therapist and the client is the most important aspect of therapy. I have worked with single mothers, couples, families, children/teenagers, and the LGBT community. Working since 2007, there is not much I have not seen. I treat my clients like I would want my family members to be treated, with respect, compassion, sincerity and honesty. I also believe therapy can be fun as well as constructive and valuable.

I truly believe in the power of art psychotherapy and look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with you and create the growth that you are seeking for yourself or your loved one.
For over 17 years I have worked with adults, children, and teens, providing a compassionate, safe, and non- judgmental approach to address issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, loss and grief, life transitions, and more. I offer an integrative approach combing various therapeutic modalities with the creative arts which helps you connect to your fullest potential and find your voice. By combining expressive arts with talk, we can make progress towards your goals even when it feels difficult to find the right words. My younger clients usually make art regularly, while my older clients often choose to do so more sporadically.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
