Whether you are a child experiencing anxiety or behavioral issues, an overwhelmed parent, or an adult experiencing depression/ anxiety; I am so looking forward to working with you, listening to your life story, and working with you towards meeting your goals!.
Saturday and Sunday VIRTUAL hours are available! It is natural to sometimes experience negative emotions associated with depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. We are told by society that we are supposed to feel good all the time and that negative emotions are bad. We get caught up in a loop of negative thinking that takes away from seeing what is good in our lives. By addressing these thoughts that consume our minds and bodies, we can feel a greater sense of contentment and overall well being. You can get rid of the constraints that are holding you from reaching your goals.

Waitlist for new clients
Teletherapy via internet or phone is available due to the recent crisis and CDC recommendations to minimize leaving the home. I have been in private practice over 38 years as a licensed psychologist, providing counseling in a confidential and professional manner using primarily a cognitive behavior therapy approach. Problems addressed include anxiety, depression, parenting, and relationships. My treatment philosophy emphasizes a collaborative relationship between myself and my clients, with a focus of the development of strengths as the preferred way to address problems and weaknesses, as well as legitimate goal in its own right.

While I am trained in many different areas, my specializations include: Eating Disorders, Trauma, Depression and Anxiety.
Therapy is all about healing and empowering your whole person: how you feel, what you think, what you do, and the perspectives and paradigms that shape and determine your quality of life. And therapy only works when you find someone with whom you can build a trusting therapeutic relationship. Unfortunately, finding the right therapist can be easier said than done. If you choose to work with me, you can be assured that I will always listen attentively, focus completely, conduct myself with professionalism and sensitivity, respect and care at all times, and never lose sight of the fact that we are in this journey together.

If you’re reading this congratulations on taking the first step towards achieving your goals. You’ve decided to reach out and sometimes that is the hardest part. For over 15 years I’ve enjoyed helping those navigate the path to healing. I believe a safe and empathic environment is the foundation to this path. My practice works with those facing trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, performance issues, adoption, and relationship conflict. After many years behind the athletic bench I also have a passion for working with athletes and performers seeking to enhance the mental side of their game or barriers that impact their performance.

I am trained in a variety of different therapies to treat children with anxiety, trauma, OCD, and oppositional behaviors.
Have you tried everything to help your child and nothing seems to be working? Maybe you've seen a therapist before and it wasn't helpful or your child refused to talk and it was a waste of time. I can help support you in understanding your child and their individualized needs. I specialize in teaching parents therapeutic interventions to use with their children at home to reduce meltdowns, decrease anxiety, and increase coping skills (for yourself and your child). And if working with you isn't enough to help your child, I am a registered play therapist able to communicate with children through play (no talking necessary).

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
