As a licensed professional counselor I provide clients with a safe space to share their concerns, struggles, or challenges. I believe the therapeutic relationship should be collaborative and built on warmth and trust. Together we will work to identify issues, past and present, with the goal of stability, healing and empowerment. Offering a holistic perspective, I specialize in perinatal and postpartum mental health, trauma and addiction (i.e. substance/alcohol abuse/dependency).

My greatest passion is sitting with individuals as they become enlightened, unburdened & encouraged through the power of talk therapy. I consider it a privilege when anyone shares their life challenges with me in pursuit of support and guidance. External conditions may not change but through counseling, one's perspective and responses can change, leading to improved mental health. Struggles & pressures in life do not have to dictate or determine your identity or emotions but they can be used to produce growth and realization of personal strengths & potentials as we all have the ability to change. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, I have witnessed a lot that has helped me as a psychologist. I am experienced with working with children who have trauma and/or behavioral issues and adults who have mental health issues ranging from minimal stress to schizophrenia. I have worked with families that are dealing with infertility, infidelity, and separation. I am also a certified school psychologist. Hence, I understand academic difficulties and its impact on both the child and parent.

If you’re reading this you are probably facing a difficult situation and finding a therapist that is the “right fit” on top of it all can be difficult. Let me make this easier by explaining what I do with my clients. I neutrally show compassion with every individual, couple, and family I work with. I approach therapy systemically, looking at individuals within the context of their relationships and social systems. Specializing with couples and families I tend to address relational patterns, emotional distress, communication dynamics, and power structures within family systems.

I would use a combination of DBT and narrative therapy to assist the client through discussed goals.
The ideal client is struggling with boundaries and stress management as they've begun caring for an aging parent while transitioning into a new career while maintaining a healthy marriage and sense of self. Caring for a parent comes with many experiences and emotions, as we can unexpectedly fall into the arena of grief and life as we know it. Maintaining healthy boundaries is an essential piece to effective communication and clarity.

I utilize a range of different modalities including CBT, DBT, EFT, MI, Narrative Therapy, and Family Systems Theory.
In my opinion, there is no such thing as an ideal client. The human experience is far too vast and varying for one to be considered an ideal therapeutic client. It is my pleasure to engage with any individual who has the strength and awareness to seek mental health treatment and it is my privilege to be allowed into their lives. In my work as a therapist, it is my hope to work with my clients in such a way that encourages and inspires them to pursue their authentic-selves while building healthy, sustainable skills to cope with the myriad of struggles, obstacles, and experiences that life can entail.

My approaches include DBT/mindfulness therapy, narrative therapy, existential humanism, yoga therapy and Jungian dream analysis.
"Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit." ~B.K.S. Iyengar * * * A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body and a healthy soul. My goal is to partner with you in looking at your life-story, and identifying and overcoming the blockages to a peaceful way of being. Psychotherapy is a wonderful opportunity to find balance and restore a sense of wholeness and perspective on our purpose in life. I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space in my practice for this to occur.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
