I am trained in many trauma focused therapies that facilitate this deeper healing process - EMDR, Internal Family Systems, NARM, Somatic Experiencing-but above all consider myself to be a relational and relatable therapist who prioritizes the relationship with my clients as the primary healing agent.
Are you tired of experiencing the same patterns and want to heal at the root of your symptoms? I specialize in treating trauma, addictions, and self esteem issues - in particularly with women and teenagers. When my clients first come in, their lives are overrun by fear and insecurities. They carry around deep shame about who they are and never feel quite “good enough”. They want to be confident and heal the patterns that are holding them back but do not know where to start.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, or the loss of a loved one with a sense of feeling lost, hopeless, and without purpose? Are you struggling with life transitions & open to delving deeper to explore those issues? I primarily work with men like this, who have arrived at this point in life feeling "stuck" or "at a dead end," struggling with relationship issues and feeling disconnected & frustrated. Sometimes we need a little extra support to help us navigate the ups and downs of life. I hope you give yourself credit for taking this first step of reaching out. Counseling may not be able to change some of your external stressors, however it can be a safe non-judgmental place to share about what you are dealing with and perhaps equip you with tools to better manage situations. I believe it is important to direct our focus and energy toward what is within our control so that we are able to move forward and make progress. Change can be a challenging process, but it is possible and accomplished one step at a time.

I am a Somatic Psychotherapist and Certified Sex Therapist, and pay equal attention to what my clients say (psychological) and what they feel (somatic).
I treat a wide range of clients of all genders and sexual expressions for sexuality and relationship concerns. The foundation of my practice was built working with survivors of sexual assault and abuse, helping them transition into holistic sexual health for themselves, as well as sustaining intimate relationships with others. Today my practice still includes working with survivors, though I also see individuals and couples with issues such as compulsivity with pornography/sex, infidelity, fertility concerns, pain disorders, low desire, nontraditional sexual expression exploration and consensual non-monogamy.

I have recently added Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) as services now available in my office. I am not a traditional talk therapist, rather I do experiential psychotherapy. I trained 6 years beyond my doctorate in somatic psychotherapy, so that I include the body's experience throughout the session. In addition, I'm a Kripalu-certified yoga teacher. Through movement, breath, and mindfulness, I help you know and experience your feeling- states in your body. This allows you to expand your awareness so that you have choices (rather than being run by the programming of mind!)

I integrate EMDR, IFS, attachment-based, mindfulness/somatic techniques, and if you like, spirituality or 12-Step.
We all face struggles in life. Maybe relationships or sexual behavior seem "crazy” or consuming. Or, maybe you struggle with extreme eating habits, spending or another kind of compulsive behavior. Maybe your job exposes you to daily risk and tragedy and you're feeling the weight of it. You may struggle to manage emotions, anxiety, loneliness, grief. All my clients deal with these kinds of things. It’s no coincidence they've also usually dealt with abuse, family dysfunction or trauma. Many have PTSD, CPTSD or dissociative disorder.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
