Finding the right therapist can be a daunting task. Well, look no further - you've come to the right place. I'm the type of therapist with whom you'll experience comfort, safety, warmth, understanding, and compassion all within a judgement-free environment. In my ten years of practicing, I've successfully helped hundreds of adolescents and adults achieve meaning and satisfaction in their relationships and personal lives. Depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, existentialism, addiction, are some of the many challenges people bring to my office.

Psychotherapy is a profession whose mainspring is love. Nearly everyone who visits a therapist has a love disorder, and each has a story to tell of love lost or denied, love twisted or betrayed, love perverted or shackled to violence. I use holism to help the patient reconnect, remember and reimagine. Much of what causes us distress comes from a lack of integration with our biological, psychological, social, and spiritual selves. I am excited about partnering with you in your journey of finding wholeness.

Have you been struggling with your self esteem? Do you feel like you lack control in your life and have been just "going through the motions"? Perhaps you feel like you're unable to handle life transitions or difficult conversations with people? This can be very frustrating and make us feel stuck in a never ending cycle. Many people accept this as the way it will always be and cannot see a way out.

I like working with people who are struggling. I believe that we all go through hard times; we struggle with life events as well as things that are more internal such as depression or anxiety. I believe that each person has an innate potential to grow but that we often live life on autopilot continuing to do the same things that perpetuate our struggles and pain. Therapy is a chance to slow down and look at these struggles. It is a chance to intentionally explore them and how to deal with them.

A first therapy session is a little like a blind date; if the interpersonal chemistry isn't right, there shouldn't be a second date. At the end of our first session together, if you feel safe, secure, understood and supported, then, and only then, do we go forward. Otherwise I'll refer you elsewhere. If it feels to you like we can work well together, you can probably get beyond your struggles with depression, anxiety and/or relationship issues more quickly than you think. I look forward to meeting you

I am open-minded, nonjudgmental and responsive to the special concerns of both men and wo men.
There is one Self and a shared consciousness deep within. At the same time, we live in a world of diversity and individual uniqueness. Psychotherapy now has the tools to assist in the journey to uncover the genuine “you”,that is, the person you have been looking to be all your life. Layers of conditioning have separated you from the self within. Mindfulness, trauma work and self-compassion provide the support and pathways to clear out wasteful thinking, worries, depression, obsessions and addictions which keep you unbalanced and discontent. Additionally, relational communication skills will build your connectedness and boundaries.

Life can be complex. It can feel like its is coming at you from several directions at one time. Work, family, health, loss, even positive changes like marriage and promotion and be stressful adjustments. Sometimes it is not so clear as to where the challenges are stemming from, but they are there. They disrupt our sleep, impact how we interact with peers and our loved ones, create greater impulsivity, and can disrupt our usually effective job perfor mance. Sometimes the choices we make under such duress may feel like they offer some relief in the short term, but ultimately contribute to additional challenges.

Using a person-centered approach to therapy, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating by providing individualized services based upon your specific needs and concerns. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to understand and resolve the current challenges in your life. By engaging in therapeutic approaches and techniques together, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

While antidepressants are often very useful, we now have an effective approach which has helped many people overcome their mood problems without having to take drugs.
Are you feeling overwhelmed with the direction of your life? Is your job not emotionally or financially satisfying? Do you find yourself having difficult, short-lived relationships, or worse - none at all? Is depression and/or anxiety wearing you down? It is my experience that our difficulties and problems are primarily determined by reactions to how we think and feel. I can help you understand how your thoughts and feelings prevent you from getting what you want, and then help you find ways of creating more success in the areas you desire to change. I offer a relaxed yet interactive environment in a comfortable, private office.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
