In my professional work I have learned to empathize deeply and to make observations and interpretations based on years of accumulated clinical knowledge and experience. While my professional training has been invaluable, my clients (and my colleagues, too) have been the most extraordinary teachers of life and healing. Through my work I have learned to be more open and compassionate and more fully human. This enables me to be a more effective facilitator in the healing process of psychotherapy. It is always a privilege to do emotional healing work with another human being--both of us are enriched.

Being human isn't always easy. Sometimes it feels impossible. The foundation of my work with people centers on emotional expression, being able to talk about anything, say everything. The process of talking and being heard leads to tension release and allows thoughts and feelings to be expressed.

I am a Columbia University trained licensed social worker who has been in private practice since 2007. My ideal goal is to establish rapport and connect with others, so that they can ultimately help themselves. I value a safe, comfortable meeting space where people can relax and be themselves, so that they can feel better as soon as possible.

I see clients in individual couple or family therapy depending on the issues the client wants to address and together we define goals and the best modality to achieve those goals. Other than diagnostic description for insurance reimbursement, I prefer to see the problems not as just in the individual but rather in the context in which the individual is functioning. Therefore I ideally include as much of that context as possible in the therapeutic work.

Congratulations on taking the first step- it’s often the hardest! We all seek happiness, self-gratification and inner peace; and at times we all need support getting there. I have been practicing as a clinician in the field for over 15 years. I have worked in various professional settings helping clients with issues of trauma, stress, anxiety, loss, grief, chronic illness, and relationship and interpersonal issues. The last few years have left us feeling isolated, lonely and definitely confused! Plans and goals were derailed leaving some of us to wonder how things will change... I call this the "worried-well". This is a way that functioning individuals focus on the negative, despite success in everyday life. But there is a way out of this and into a more positive, life-embracing mindset!

There is a reason why the safety protocols on airplanes instruct us to put the oxygen mask on ourselves first in case of an emergency. We can not care for others if we don’t focus on our own needs, even with the very limited time most of us have daily. Yet many of us get stuck on a hamster wheel and end up giving and giving until we simply have nothing left. This in conjunction with trauma can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and hopelessness. My goal is to disrupt that cycle by providing a safe space for my clients to work through their most vulnerable emotions and emerge ready to tackle life’s challenges.
