I work with a somatic focus, and a mindfulness foundation.
You are more than the painful experiences you have endured. You may feel triggered in everyday situations or feel alone and isolated. You may struggle with perfectionism, anxiety, or guilt. However, you have a sense of your life purpose — and long to live your life more authentically. You are ready for relief. You're ready to love who you truly are and face your future with a sense of hope. In our work together, you will gain a deeper respect for what makes you unique. Through connecting with your core, authentic self, you can experience greater ease, freedom, and self-acceptance.

My work combines psychoanalytic therapy with helping people learn how to listen to the unique and creative way in which our body carries wisdom, information and unprocessed experiences. It is important for us to tell the story of what has happened to us and to have our stories held in a compassionate manner. If we already know our story and find ourselves still stuck in old behaviors, thoughts and patterns, then learning to listen and experience how our bodies hold meaning for what's still unresolved or unknown is a valuable skill.

A bow of welcome to you! Taking the first steps of exploration into suffering, challenging life circumstances, overwhelming emotions, and conflicts with others takes courage, and I acknowledge that you have taken this difficult first step. I have been working in the field for almost 20 years and I’ve learned that my greatest teachers are the people with whom I work. I will work with you to create a safe and collaborative relationship to explore whatever it is that brought you to therapy. One observation that I have made over my years doing therapy, is that the “sicker” people are, the less they play.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed or lost? Maybe you feel unfulfilled in relationships, career, or other key areas of your life. If you are ready to explore these parts of yourself and interrupt patterns that no longer serve, I can help with that. Therapy is a collaborative process which allows us to look at areas in your life that cause distress, and identify ways to adjust your thoughts and behaviors to create positive change. I provide therapy in a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself openly and authentically. I work with individuals and couples/partners.

I am a licensed therapist specializing in clinical work with children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups. I view my role as assisting my clients to more fully realize and become their authentic selves. Often, life events occur that prevent us from feeling strong, brave, satisfied, or even present in the world. We may become disconnected from others as well as ourselves. My passion is supporting clients as they grow, heal, play, discover, and connect within their therapy sessions and in their lives. I provide a safe, secure space where clients can explore their innermost thoughts, feelings, wishes, and fears.

We can all benefit from mindfulness and self compassion. Did you grow up with a narcissist or a substance abuser? Have you ever suspected that you were being emotionally abused by a parent, partner (current or former), boss or friend? Are you always second guessing yourself? If you find yourself stuck repeating the same mistakes over and over again in relationships at work or in life, you're not alone. If you're feeling guilty, sad or anxious a lot of the time, therapy can help. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma and abuse survivors.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
