While working with this client, I would encourage creative modalities, such as art therapy, to further process past experiences.
My client would be someone seeking treatment for substance use disorder, PTSD and/or Personality disorders. This person would be seeking to gain resiliency and manage traumatic symptoms. Their goals could also include, but are not limited to, being able to increase self-esteem, self-worth, and self-awareness.

I would utilize art therapy in sessions for the client to develop a sense of trust.
My ideal client presents with issues such as worry, stress, and hopelessness and has problems with emotion regulation. The client appears stagnant, as their issues have become so debilitating, that they are unable to attend to their schooling or work. Their needs consist of developing healthy coping skills, challenging negative thought patterns, and gaining insight into their current problems. Despite the client’s hopelessness, they appear motivated and goal-oriented. They want to work through their struggles to have a better life for themselves and live a life aligned with their values.

The client would ideally be an adult who is within the LGBTQIA+ community and is coming to me to work on bettering themselves. Their issues would include depression, anxiety, and questioning their gender and sexual identity.

My ideal client would most likely be a female teenager working through peer relationships, self-esteem, and social anxiety. With this client, I believe some of her needs would be to explore core beliefs of who she is in comparison to what others may say/think of her, cognitively challenging and reframing intrusive/negative thought patterns, and slowly expose the client to social scenarios in which she can use her coping skills to effectively navigate new situations.

I enjoy working with individuals who have medical conditions, who are anxious, depressed, and are interested in moving forward in their lives and working with couples who are eager to explore how to improve communication or improve their relationship. I enjoy working with parents looking for assistance in coping with the challenges of raising children. I enjoy working with children/teens facing challenges in school, at home, and with peers. I enjoy working with women who are pregnant and nervous, who have delivered and are nervous about their return to work, and who are having difficulty with the balance of work/home life.

My ideal client is female, male, or nonbinary and is kind and generous, has good ethics, and loves to help others. They have been experiencing low self-esteem and have been numbing out emotions through food, technology, work, or other distractions. Their numbing-out practices have held them back from being their authentic self, productivity with work, maintaining healthy and loving friendships and relationships, having enough energy, and their overall self-esteem. They are ready to commit to putting in the work in therapeutic services to help them develop and maintain healthier coping skills.

My ideal client is someone who understands the areas of their life that need improvement. They have an idea of potential treatment goals for therapy and is open to the process. Additionally, they believe there are many ways to address previous traumas and can identify preferences for treatment. For example, a client who is open to incorporating journaling, meditation, or other holistic practices in addition to traditional talk therapy. My ideal client intentionally commits to the therapeutic process and is open to collaboration in the therapeutic space.

My ideal client is a young adult facing overwhelming life challenges. They might feel lost amid trauma, loss, or big changes, even though they seem okay to others. They struggle with emotions like sadness and stress and need a safe place to talk, heal, and learn healthy ways to cope. They want to find peace and purpose, and they seek support to understand themselves better, grow, and face life with confidence. They're ready to explore, heal, and become the best version of themselves, knowing they don't have to do it alone.

I have seen first-hand how both talk therapy and art therapy can encourage growth and support an increase in self-awareness and mindfulness.
Whether you are seeking therapy for the first time, you're transitioning out of a higher level of care, or you're somewhere in between, my goal is to help you experience relief from your symptoms and get back to living life on your terms. I am licensed in NJ and PA. I work with teenagers (13+) and adults and specialize in treating eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. I also have experience in treating OCD and PTSD, and understand the importance of providing trauma-informed care. Regardless of your diagnosis, I believe that it's important to tailor each person's treatment to their specific needs.

As a neurodivergent queer feminist art therapist, I'll help your child figure out who they are and more effectively deal with what's weighing them down emotionally.
I help neurodivergent/2e/ADHD & LGBTQ+ kids (ages 10-20) who’ve had it with school, feel excluded, and have meltdowns or shut down when you try to talk to them. Your child can learn to handle big emotions & address mental health concerns with neuro & queer affirming art therapy, so they can focus on "regular stuff" - finishing that project, sleepovers, extracurriculars. As a parent, you’ll have fewer crises, more time to enjoy your family & time for yourself, while your child’s improved confidence & flexible thinking will mean less frustration & chaos, and more time for learning, friends & activities that are meaningful to them.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
