In therapy I use a person centered approach to make the client and/or family feel comfortable while using cognitive behavioral strategies to assist in making the changes that they want to make in certain areas of their lives.
With clients dealing with any issues whether that may be anxiety, depression or family problems, I like to use a person centered approach to build rapport with that client to make them feel comfortable in what may be a very uncomfortable time for them. The client's I work with who are successful are motivated for treatment and willing to focus on the positive re-framing and restructuring of their negative and intrusive thoughts.

I often incorporate CBT, which focuses on identifying, challenging and changing negative thought patterns.
I specialize in helping patients that are dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma related issues. Worry, fear and bad memories often interfere with a person’s daily life. These problems can be very stressful and can affect a person’s social relationships, work performance, and self esteem. These individuals often turn to maladaptive coping strategies such as drugs and/or alcohol to find relief. I work with these patients to help them manage life difficulties and heal from past trauma in order to learn new ways of thinking and coping.

My therapeutic approaches pull from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness and narrative therapy.
Asking for help is not an easy thing to do. If it were, we would all do it without hesitation. Instead, we set high expectations for ourselves and are resistant to receiving support. We struggle and accept that our current lifestyle is the unchanging norm. I am here to remind you of two indisputable facts; first, life is challenging. Second - and most importantly - is that we do not have to go through it alone. As a licensed social worker (LSW), my goal is to provide judgment-free, supportive spaces for clients where we can process, manage daily stressors, and learn healthy coping skills to incorporate in life for years to come.

I work with Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic therapies as well as Mindfulness and Thought Inquiry to help you find peace in your life.
Our relationship is the most important part of the therapeutic process. Trust, comfort and clear communication promotes change and positive life transistion. I believe strongly in a calm and safe environment along with conversation, understanding and therapeutic homework. So many of us struggle with focusing on others rather than on ourselves. Taking responsibility and control of our own lives is the first step in creating emotional health. I have worked in this area for my entire career and greatly enjoy helping my clients to take the wheel of their own life! I offer Video or Telephone sessions for your convenience.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
