I am an expert in the treatment of anxiety-related conditions, OCD, and ‘body focused repetitive behaviors’ like hair pulling and scratching disorders.
My highest therapeutic priority is the relationship I establish with the patients I treat. I describe the ideal connection as safe, non-judgmental, and mutually accountable and consider these factors to be instrumental to a person’s healing and recovery. My capacity to embrace all walks of life and ability to help humans feel comfortable in their own skin has made my long standing career as a therapist full and dynamic. I bring comprehensive, therapeutic skills to my practice. I am thoroughly skilled and experienced to treat depression, substance abuse and personality disorders.

If you have found yourself in a pattern of unhealthy relationships or behaviors and have struggled with behavior change, my approach to treatment will likely be a good fit. Finding the right "fit" with a therapist can be a challenging process and is often one of the most important ingredients for successful outcomes. I have experience in working with anxiety disorders, personality disorders, depression/bipolar disorder, OCD, and adjustment disorders. I conduct formal psychological evaluations for diagnostic clarification/treatment planning, as part of pre-surgical clearance, and domestic and international pre-adoption evaluations.

I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, Trauma.
My question to my clients is how do you see your best self? I want to be able to get you there. I wholeheartedly believe in meeting the client where they are at and giving genuine support. As a therapist, I don’t want to tell you what to do. I’d rather help guide you in the right direction and help you to be comfortable with the decisions you make. If you find it difficult to socialize, experience loneliness or struggle with grief or trauma, talk to me. Together, we can work on solutions that allow you to address the root causes and help build a better you.

As a member of the LGBTQ or kink community you worry that your therapist might not “get it.” You are wondering if you can talk openly about your life and experiences. Maybe, you work in a setting (law enforcement, military, religious community...etc), or are part of a family where coming out or expressing your true self is scary as hell. I’ve been there and can relate! I am a gay man, served on Active Duty, and worked with adolescents and first responders for over nine years. I am a therapist AND I go to therapy. I believe in the power of therapy but I know the vulnerability required to reach out and schedule that first visit!

I work with you to create a safe environment within our relationship that allows us to explore issues that underlie depression, anxiety, loneliness, lack of fulfillment, and other uncomfortable and undesired feelings.
My mission is to help you find a greater sense of peace and contentment in your everyday life. We will start by addressing the stressors impacting your life today to provide immediate, effective, and meaningful relief. From there, we can explore the beliefs you have about yourself and others and how these beliefs can be the root cause of recurring discomfort. Through our collaborative work, we will challenge these beliefs and work towards more satisfying relationships, increased self-esteem, and more adaptive behaviors.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
