Some of my specialty areas include family therapy, parenting, eating disorders, adolescents, depression, anxiety, stress management, relationship problems, and couples counseling.
I believe that every person has a healthy part of them that strives for positive change. When you are at a difficult point in your life, a relationship with a trusted therapist is a great help. Therapy can help you pinpoint the issues you need to work on, and understand where they come from and what keeps you stuck - while challenging you to make positive and lasting change.

My specialty includes relationship issues between adults, between parent and child/adolescent, between adult and aging parent, between friends and/or colleagues.
Therapy is successful when there is a good "fit" between client and therapist. The therapy "works" when the client feels that the therapist understands them and demonstrates the ability to help them improve their lives. With more than 25 years of experience with individuals, couples, families and groups, I offer an approach tailored to the uniqueness of each individual person and the issues unique to them.

I see psychotherapy as a journey in which two individuals, therapist and patient, co-create the story of the patient's life. In doing so, together they connect disconnected parts of the self, acknowledge and resolve internal conflicts, work through old losses, and discover new options for leading a more purposeful and meaningful life. For parents, I provide consultation and parenting support when children are struggling. I also provide psychoanalytic clinical supervision focusing on helping clinicians deepen and strengthen the therapeutic relationship with their clients with the aim of reaching more meaningful growth and change.

I strive to empower parents and children to identify and address their concerns through the use of CBT, ACT, and parent management strategies.
Does your child or adolescent struggle with avoiding things that make them uncomfortable? Managing impulses and behavior? Maintaining healthy family and peer relationships? Do you want things to change but you're not sure how they can, or you feel like you've already tried everything? I aim to foster a genuine connection by meeting you and your child where you are with your given challenges. Together we will form a plan so you can confidently make the changes necessary to live your best life. The purpose of therapy is to equip you with tools that work, and leave you feeling capable of using these tools far beyond our time together.

Life is an unpredictable journey. Individuals are confronted with difficult challenges, decisions and obstacles; a pandemic, a divorce, a terminal illness, racial inequality or gender bias. Other events, which may be welcomed, may also be challenging: a promotion, a marriage, a baby. With change comes transitions and new roles; parent, caregiver, victim, divorcee. Covid clarified that illness, loss and grief may cause psychological pain or trauma. Trauma is when the unbelievable occurs. It leaves victims in a world which simultaneously looks familiar and unfamiliar. Individuals may feel paralyzed, anxious or exhausted.

For someone to undertake therapy is almost always fraught with anxiety. Who is this person I am trusting with my thoughts and feelings? Will she understand me? Everyone shares these questions and concerns in one form or another.
The work I do with people is geared toward helping them to understand themselves better and to make better choices in their lives. I have many years of experience in working with people facing relationship difficulties, the challenge of using their skills to their best advantage, and in helping adults to navigate the challenges of parenting.

Effective counseling, like effective parenting and teaching, involves understanding where someone is at in their growth process and providing them with a safe space and the supports essential to move to the next level. Developmentalists refer to this as "scaffolding". Like scaffolding for a building, these external supports are specific and put in place to allow for expansion and strengthening. Now, think about your favorite mentor or coach. It is likely that they provided support and encouragement that was a good match for you. As a counselor, I provide these supports, assisting my clients in reaching their greatest potential.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
