I conduct psychotherapy using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and will shortly be certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT) skills.
I am an experienced therapist who is committed to helping clients through anxiety, low self-esteem and sexual trauma issues. My clients are anxious, depressed and highly intelligent individuals who need help managing their emotional conflicts and learning to cope with life's difficulties in a positive way. I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I think the reason we develop mental health issues is because they are unhealthy learned behaviors. I grew up in a family that was highly anxious and through my own therapy and growth I've learned to manage it with tools provided to me.

Grounded in evidence-based modalities like DBT and CBT, I specialize in treating anxiety and trauma with expertise in working with first responders.
The human experience is characterized by a blend of uncertainty and challenges that arise, demanding our attention and resilience. These challenges manifest in various forms, often triggering feelings of anxiety, sadness, and a sense of loss and overwhelm. However, what if amidst these struggles lies an opportunity for empowerment? What if we could reframe our perspective, viewing each day as an avenue for growth, learning, and self-discovery? By harnessing the power within our everyday difficulties, we have the potential to transform our mindset, cultivate resilience, and ultimately thrive amidst life's uncertainties.

I specialize in working with youth and adults using a blend of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
Are you an individual who is having difficulty managing day-to-day stressors? Are you feeling depressed, anxious, constantly criticizing yourself and not so sure on how to tell that inner critic in your head to take a step back? If so, your goal could be breaking free from unhelpful thinking patterns and introducing stress management techniques. I have helped and guided many people who have made that first step into taking control of their life.

I see the counseling experience as being similar to solving a jigsaw puzzle. When an individual enters my office with a box of pieces, maybe having a partial picture, maybe some of the pieces seem lost; I see it as my responsibility to provide a safe and nurturing environment that allows the individual to explore the most difficult aspects of themselves so together the missing pieces can be found and the individual can create the whole picture they want to see.

Are you struggling and experiencing sadness, anxiousness and/or stress from day to day? As life and certain relationships can be challenging, we may find ourselves wondering what to do in order to stop the unwanted stress. For those who are parents with a struggling child or adolescent, do you feel like you’ve tried everything to help and instead feel stuck? Fear of the unknown prevents many individuals from reaching out and finding the right professional that is a suitable match to support healthy change. Challenges are real and there is help.

Life can be overwhelming, full of surprises, and stressful. We may wonder how to face these struggles, experiences of sadness or anxiety, or difficulties in relationships. Often we find ourselves feeling this way after changes in our family, the loss of a job or retirement, or the death of a loved one. There are times when we all need extra support to make it through the challenges we are facing. Therapy can help empower us to recognize inner strengths, develop effective coping skills, and enable personal growth.

Recovery is not a solitary journey; it is about connection with self and others. As we enter into the process of therapy you will have the opportunity to experience inner connection and awareness leading to Self expansion and outer growth. I believe strongly that our primary task is to continue your journey of self exploration; to seek the wealth of potential, strength, compassion, understanding, and openness that lies within. It is your ability to connect with these that will serve as your greatest asset in obtaining whatever goals you have coming into therapy.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by constant worry and compulsive behaviors? Feeling paralyzed by your intrusive thoughts, questioning your self-worth, who you are and whether or not you'll ever be in control again? Is your every day feeling more and more like a bad dream you can't wake up from because anxiety is holding you hostage? Do you avoid places, people and things because you're afraid of the "what ifs?" Maybe you've tried Googling your symptoms in hope of finding something that helps but hit a dead end?

We are all filled with expectations and hopes, but sometimes things happen that keep us from our plans, from being happy, or just... from being. Perhaps fear, sadness, or grief have kept you stuck for a while, which has left you feeling depressed, anxious, or hopeless. This is completely understandable; our experiences can certainly shape us, but they do not have to define us. With compassion and warmth, I will help you explore your upbringing, problems of self-esteem, and communication style. In doing so, I am committed to helping you get the relief you have long needed, and deserve.

I rely heavily on the skills taught in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for both parent and child.
I believe that parenting is the hardest job we will ever have, and the one that comes with the least training and support. Especially in today's world, parenting adolescents can feel like a no-win situation. My goal is to help parents and teens see "eye-to-eye" and understand each other's perspectives and goals in a way that results in collaboration rather than the typical resistance that occurs in adolescence.

I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT).
I help people pleasers coping with chronic stress, including burnout and chronic illness, get “unstuck.” Living with chronic stress can feel discouraging, isolating, frustrating and overwhleming. Sometimes it feels like no one “gets it.” I work with people striving to become their best selves, whether that means overcoming burnout or lack of purpose, coping with chronic illness, or figuring out how to get from where you are now to where you want to be. I offer tele-therapy services in NY, NJ, and MA.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
