Managing relationships, work, family, friends, school, career paths, and/or kids, can be complicated, frustrating, and exhausting. We do our best to navigate these experiences, but there comes a point when we feel stuck, depressed, anxious, confused, and/or lost. We typically do a good job of suppressing these issues, until we just can't do it anymore. When these times arise, which they always do, it is helpful to have a supportive, nonjudgmental guide to walk with you as you explore and navigate your thoughts and feelings.

Life often presents us with obstacles and dilemmas that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and uncertain. At these times, a therapeutic relationship can provide a safe and nurturing space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This exploration can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself and be a space to develop the tools to overcome life's challenges.

Consider the messages you learned from your family growing up, and how those life lessons found their way into the way you view the world. How do they inform the way you see yourself? What is their impact on how you connect to others in relationships? In our work together we uncover deeply held beliefs about others and the world that may be causing us to repeat unhelpful patterns of behavior. Repeating these patterns can cause us to feel a myriad of negative feelings- confusion, frustration and loneliness. I aim to create a warm, empathic and caring relationship that allows you to feel heard and understood.

With over 20 years of experience, dedication and compassion, I will work with you to uncover obstacles and find solutions.

If you have a child who worries a lot -- when no matter what you say, no matter how much loving reassurance you try to provide, you can't get through -- it can feel deeply painful and can leave you feeling a little powerless. Kids who worry a lot often don't know how to manage their outsized emotions. As a parent, it can make you feel like you're walking on eggshells, trying to avoid any of your child's triggers. You bend over backward to try and shift your child’s mood or their perspective, but your child continues to struggle. You’re starting to wonder if it's time to get another set of eyes on the situation.

In many ways our relational environments and contemporary lifestyles do not not support well-being. Typically we spend so much time in thought and disconnected from our own body and other somebodies. Our minds are on overdrive, revving up our autonomic nervous systems and alienating us from the present moment and from one another. As a therapist I bring the body into the conversation. Through mindfulness and somatic practices we slow down the pace, observe the body’s language and lovingly craft a more compassionate response.

Sometimes, you just need someone to talk to, someone who is a good listener and, most importantly, non-judgmental. Talking to a stranger about very personal issues is hard. It takes time to develop a bond and establish trust with a therapist. I am aware of that and strive to give the client as much time as he or she needs. Feeling worried and nervous is a reasonable response to uncertain circumstances, exacerbated by the stressors caused by the pandemic. Deciding to get help is a proactive and healthy step towards change and self-acceptance.

Have you experienced the loss of a person, a pregnancy, a relationship or dream? Grief effects the mind, the body and the spirit. It can feel overwhelming and without end. Family and friends mean well but often want you to "move on". Sometimes it is easier to just be quiet but it can be a lonely, anxious place to be.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
