I employ a combination DBT and Mindfulness methods to help you live a more balanced, peaceful life.
Hi, I'm Jill and I'm glad you're here. I have been a therapist for 17 years and I understand what a big decision it is to start counseling. Whether you feel the problem is big or small or transitional, the right therapist can help you navigate. I have advanced training to help you manage depression, anxiety, anger management, relationships (marital, parent-child, peer) and sexual behavioral health. I work with adolescents (12-17) and adults. I take a warm, empathetic approach to treatment to help you feel comfortable and confident in reaching your goals.

My approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT) strategies and includes the use of mindfulness and relaxation techniques, with an emphasis on self-care.
Welcome to my page, I am so elated that you have taken the first step towards improving your mental health! By taking this step you are being open and honest about some of the current challenges or concerns that you might be facing. We all have blind spots, however by engaging with therapy, you are making a concerted effort to be hopeful and optimistic. As you engage with the therapeutic process you will learn new ways to challenge negative self- talk, reduce dysfunction and improve your overall ability to manage the stressors of life. This will ultimately lead to the overarching goal of becoming the best version of your self.

I integrate evidence-based practices of DBT ( Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) with trauma informed care, psychodynamic therapy, spiritual care, and ecotherapy.
I place value on being able to provide telementalhealth services to people as it allows them to access care while managing their unique circumstances (health/mobility challenges, child/family/elder care responsibilities, transportation, financial means, limited services) and to meet securely in settings that are most comfortable and natural for us both.

My ideal client is someone who is willing to put in the work in the therapeutic process. The client should be able to recognize that there are changes that need to happen and are willing to do what it takes to make therapy work for them. The main issues that I work with are anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. The goals of therapy would be to find a balance between where emotions no longer inhibit a person's ability to function on a daily basis.

Do you feel like you're living in a world that wasn't made for you, constantly trying to bridge the gap between who you are and who the world expects you to be? Like no matter how hard you try, there’s something different about you that others just don’t seem to understand? You might find yourself overwhelmed by social situations, exhausted by sensory overload, or feeling like you have to hide your true self just to fit in. Maybe you’ve recently stumbled upon the possibility that Autism or ADHD could explain your lifelong struggles, or you’ve been diagnosed later in life, leaving you with a mix of relief and uncertainty.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
