Emotionally Focused Therapists in Audubon, NJ
I use specific modalities such as Trauma-Focused CBT, IFS, and EFT as specialties to apply to aid the treatment process.
My ideal client is someone who understands the areas of their life that need improvement. They have an idea of potential treatment goals for therapy and is open to the process. Additionally, they believe there are many ways to address previous traumas and can identify preferences for treatment. For example, a client who is open to incorporating journaling, meditation, or other holistic practices in addition to traditional talk therapy. My ideal client intentionally commits to the therapeutic process and is open to collaboration in the therapeutic space.

We can all benefit from mindfulness and self compassion. Did you grow up with a narcissist or a substance abuser? Have you ever suspected that you were being emotionally abused by a parent, partner (current or former), boss or friend? Are you always second guessing yourself? If you find yourself stuck repeating the same mistakes over and over again in relationships at work or in life, you're not alone. If you're feeling guilty, sad or anxious a lot of the time, therapy can help. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma and abuse survivors.

Finding a therapist can be a daunting challenge, and it's courageous to even begin the process. Many of my clients have seen one or more therapists in the past, and struggled to feel understood and get the help they actually need. If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place. I am trained and practiced in addressing the root causes of suffering in individuals and relational systems, which allows me to provide the highest quality of care to children, teens, adults, couples, and families; even those who have previously struggled to find therapy helpful.

My ideal client is a young adult facing overwhelming life challenges. They might feel lost amid trauma, loss, or big changes, even though they seem okay to others. They struggle with emotions like sadness and stress and need a safe place to talk, heal, and learn healthy ways to cope. They're ready to explore, heal, and become the best version of themselves, knowing they don't have to do it alone.

From a trauma-informed lens, I seamlessly integrate elements of narrative therapy, sex therapy, emotionally focused therapy, sensate focus, Gottman method, TF-CBT, and, if requested, faith-based practices.
Has the residue of trauma impacted your relationship, causing a lack of emotional intimacy, decreased sexual affection, depression, or anxiety? Is conflict a result of sexual dysfunction? Whether you have a history of sexual trauma, need to balance home and work life, attempting affair recovery, healing from a toxic relationship, or navigating a medical diagnosis, you can mend emotional wounds, build a new foundation, and heal trauma. Regardless of your relationship experiences, you can learn tools to weather any storm. My clinical and PhD professor experience prepared me to provide public and faith based leaders expert care.

Providing online (NJ&PA) and in-person (PA) therapy to folks, my practice offers a variety of therapeutic services such as EMDR & EFT.
Maybe you have anxiety, experienced trauma, or diagnosed with ADHD and you're looking to heal those parts. Perhaps you’re struggling with your partner, friends, boss, or parents and you’re looking to understand those relationships deeper. It can feel overwhelming and isolating working on healing from negative experiences, I get it. We may oftentimes find ourselves feeling stuck and unsure of where to go to next. I want to help you overcome that. Changing is not necessarily the answer, but rather growing into the version of you that you want to see.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
