EMDR Therapy Intensives Therapy intensives are a great way to make significant progress in a shorter amount of time. Rather than going to counseling for an hour session once a week, you would set aside a specific chunk of time - 3 hours or 3 days - for intensive therapeutic work. Unlike traditional weekly sessions, which may extend over months or years, intensives offer a focused and immersive therapeutic experience. During these sessions, clients engage in ongoing EMDR processing sessions each day, allowing for rapid progress and deeper exploration of traumatic material.

I work well with adults who feel depressed, anxious, and struggle with relationships. Often people feel stuck, not sure where or how to make changes in their lives. That change might be internal shifts or in your external surroundings. Presently, I use a lot of talk therapy, mindfulness, and body awareness to help lessen self-limiting beliefs or triggers that impact you negatively and build up resilience and courage to face your fears and make positive changes in your life. Ultimately, you and I will work as a team to help you move forward in your life in health and vibrancy.

I bring a holistic approach to my work, which means I look at the big picture of your background and your current daily experiences to help determine what's supporting you, and how to effect change with what's not. As I learn more about you my intent is to increase your knowledge base and skill level at managing the areas of focus you come in with. It has been said by multiple experts in that it's a small percentage of the population that choose to do this work. It requires insight, motivation, effort, time and money, to name a few. For those who choose, this process can be relieving and empowering. You may be one of them.

EMDR also enhances peak performance.
With 30 years of experience treating trauma and grief, I find that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing provides relief more rapidly than traditional talk therapies. I see adults at my location in Campton, NH or via Telehealth to adults in NH. Clients usually have disproportionate disturbance (anxiety, grief, depression) in the present that was conditioned by negative experiences in the past. Clients with symptoms of Chronic Complex PTSD or Substance Use Disorder maintain treatment with a primary therapist and my services are an adjunct treatment as long as symptoms are stabilized.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
