I love to help people who want to grow. You may sense that your anxiety or depression or relationship troubles are signs of things you don't yet know about yourself, opportunities for personal growth you’ve postponed. If you’re at this crossroads; if you recognize that something has held you back; if you’re ready to dig in and work hard; if you want to be more effective and creative in your work, more relaxed and intimate in your relationships; then we could be a good fit.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my profile! I believe therapy is a deeply powerful tool that allows us to recognize and change ineffective patterns in our lives to become more connected, fulfilled versions of ourselves. Just as I expect my clients to take the risk of bringing their authentic selves into the room, I bring myself to our sessions too--in the form of humor, candor, and empathy. I see all kinds of people, but I especially enjoy working with moms of young kids, teens and adults struggling with disordered eating and body image, and NICU moms.

Struggling with OCD, anxiety, body-focused repetitive behaviors, or mood-related challenges can be scary to navigate on your own and can get in the way of the life you want to live. I work with people to provide specialized treatment and education to learn what's holding you back from a fulfilling and meaningful life. Together in a compassionate and non-judgmental space, we will work to identify how your thoughts and stories about yourself and life get in your way, how to make room for human experiences in the present moment, and how to act in the service of your values.

Everyone’s brain works differently. The one thing brains do similarly is create negative self talk. (The Mean Girl in your head). Negative messages from your Mean Girl can create beliefs that aren’t true, causing limitations that prevent you from living a full life. Her voice can be transformed to one that’s more supportive. One that encourages you to take risks and pursue opportunities you may have once thought were out of your reach. One of the most prevalent areas where Mean Girl creates havoc and is criticizing food choices and appearance. Resulting in self doubt and poor body image.

In my 45 years of experience as a licensed therapist working with individuals and couples, I've learned that we all want understanding, respect, and love. We want fulfillment, meaning, and happiness - individually, and in our relationships. Psychotherapy can help us develop the insights and skills we need to understand, respect, and love ourselves and others. We can change worn out, old habits, build resilience, and become more of who we long to be.

People come to therapy for many different reasons: To deal with a specific problem or concern; to develop better ways of coping with life's stresses; to overcome old obstacles; to heal from loss; to become happier, stronger and more resilient. Numerous studies have shown that one of the most important factors in helping people in therapy achieve change is a strong and trusting relationship with their therapist. I am committed to creating a warm and supportive environment in which my clients can explore their challenges, learn new skills, and find and use the innate strengths that they possess.

There are many reasons to come to therapy. I specialize in issues with mood and trauma. Issues with mood can result in feelings of anxiety, depression, low mood or mood swings. There are different ways that this can play out in life. You may be trying to manage deep painful emotions, outbursts of anger, feelings of emptiness, low motivation, lethargy or restless energy. Mood issues may result in difficulty making decisions, issues relating to others, feeling dependent on others, having difficulty saying no or asking for help, perfectionism, rigidity or black and white thinking. I work with issues relating to high intellect as well.

Does your sleep feel frustrating or stressful, rather than peaceful and rejuvenating? Has your sleep deteriorated after a life transition, such as pregnancy, growing older, or another change? Perhaps you find yourself awake for long hours in the middle of the night, or are concerned about the long-term effects of poor sleep. I would love to help you develop a better relationship with your sleep. I enjoy helping people become curious about their sleep habits, and then using that curiosity to transform into better, more restorative sleep.

Sometimes on our journey we need an objective guide. I can help you manage problems involving "big feelings” that otherwise overwhelm. If your goal is to start getting new results for old recurring problems we can do that with compassion and curiosity. It is important to explore our personal history to understand why we think or behave the ways we currently do. While personal growth isn't always painless, you don't have to be alone in the process if you have a therapist who will commit to the process along side of you. I can help you gain new perspectives that will get you to solve problems effectively.

Being a teenager isn’t easy. (Being the parent of a teenager isn’t, either!) Is your teen feeling overwhelmed? Stressed? Sad? Lonely? Frustrated? Hopeless? Having difficulty with school or relationships? Are you struggling to understand and communicate with your child, now that they have entered their teen years? I have over 15 years of experience working with adolescents and provide individual and family therapy. I have a warm, down-to-earth style and provide a safe and non-judgmental space for your child to explore their challenges and vulnerabilities.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LCMHC, who specializes in providing neuro-affirming care to clients with differently wired brains. I work most often with children aged 5 and up, adolescents, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and families to explore what is already working and how to keep moving along that path in a healthy way. I love to utilize humor, neuroscience, play therapy, and movement in sessions to support clients in meeting goals. We often use books, toys, and games in session to help realize coping skills that are already there. I believe clients have many skills to support themselves and we will work together to find them!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
