Also, I do not do court-ordered anger management evaluations, Social Security Disability determinations, Worker's Comp, return to work assessments, or any kind of psychological assessments.
I like to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere when you come to my office. Soft lighting, comfortable seating, pleasantly scented, and a relaxed feeling as if you were at home in your living room. I see people for individual, couples/marital, and family therapy. I treat anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger management, and life stage transitions such as high school/college graduation, retirement, and early exit from the workforce due to disability. My work hours are M-F from 12-8 pm, 7 pm is my last appointment time of the day. Please note, I do not see children under the age of 13.

Since 2006, I've worked with adolescents (ages 10 and up) who struggle with anxiety and/or anger.
Helping teens overcome anxiety, strengthen self-esteem and build resilience is the best part of my job at North Star Family Therapy. We'll work together to build upon their strengths, learn new coping and communication skills, and enhance executive functioning to reduce stress and increase their confidence. As part of my commitment to empowering teen girls, I am excited to introduce the Girl Strong online course which teaches essential life skills, such as decision making, coping with stress, time management, critical thinking, etc. Learn more on our website!

Are you struggling to figure out your place in the world? No one seems to understand? School is not working for you, you aren't getting along with your family, you and your spouse or ex-partner aren't on the same page when it comes to raising the children, or you aren't able to decide how to move forward in your life? There are no easy answers to these problems and sometimes it is helpful to have someone you can talk to who is there just for you.

I am passionate about the work that I do and realize that reaching out and asking for help can be one of the most challenging aspects of starting the therapy process. We all have strengths, yet sometimes we need guidance to identify what they are and how they help us to move through difficult challenges we face. I draw upon several theoretical frameworks which include trauma-informed care, strength-based, solution-focused, narrative therapy, and systems practices. However, I prefer to relate on a human level and focus on building meaningful relationships where true compassion and understanding can lead to meaningful transformations.

As a clinician, I value looking at a client as a whole person. I find utilizing your strengths, while looking at the systems in which you live is the key to successful treatment. Throughout our relationship we will examine the systems in which you live to learn together how to find balance, establish healthy communication and set boundaries.

Pre-licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor - Life can be a challenging experience. Sometimes what we go through is universal, and sometimes we find ourselves in situations where it feels like no one can understand the challenges we face. My hope is to always provide a warm and inviting environment where someone can hold space for you along the way, and to remind you that you are never alone. As challenging as things can get, there are tools and support. If you are feeling overwhelmed, alone, sad, fearful, or stuck there is a safe place waiting for you.

Being a Therapist has been a passion of mine for years! It's my goal to allow clients to have an open space to be themselves as a whole. I believe we all have our challenges and differences; therefore, I use a more traditional talk therapy approach to help support clients with reaching their goals and open a door for more creative change.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
