I have worked as a personal counselor since 1986 and as a licensed clinical social worker since 2004. I am a solution-focused therapist who listens deeply to my clients, then engages each in a true two-way conversation. Whether I'm seeing adults, older adolescents, or couples, I treat my clients respectfully. We focus on the issue at hand, work to understand the history and causes behind it, then together implement steps to bring change quickly. Most clients see me for six to eight weekly sessions, moving to less and less frequent sessions as their confidence and life satisfaction increases. I look forward to working with you.

Life can be challenging! We all need help sometimes but it can be hard to ask for help. I want to make it easy. I’ve been a counselor for over thirty years and have helped people with many of the issues we all face at one time or another. I am not judgmental because I feel that we have more in common than what seems to separate us. I believe the most important aspect of a counseling relationship is to establish a safe space where we can connect and I can truly listen to understand your concerns and goals. From there we can sort out the issues and come up with a plan to help you get on track with living the life you want.

As your counselor I want to provide the space for us to work together in identifying the root of your struggles, worries, and fears. I believe that the therapist-client relationship is a mutually exclusive relationship; where you are free to open up and explore reasons for change, and I am there to offer insight and impartial support. Whether change evokes a better version of yourself, or whether change creates a new path you are willing to explore, I want to be the person that helps you create that confidence to get there.

For the past 20 years, my work has focused on helping children with anxiety and behavioral challenges. Like physicians, practicing what is scientifically proven to work is essential. Children deserve no less! So when working to help children with anxiety, ODD, DMDD, CD, and IED, I use Parent Management Training (PMT), Cognitive Behavioral Training (CBT), and Problem-Solving Skills Training (PSST). For 7-years at Yale University and for the past 10 years through my clinic, I have trained hundreds of professionals and parents from around the world in these treatments via telehealth and in-person sessions.

In our sessions, we talk about areas you want to grow, relationship concerns, and finding work/life balance in uncertain times. Some of my clients work in caring environments: nurses, therapists, counselors, doctors, and educators. I also meet with men who are seeking to grow. Some clients are trauma survivors, while others may struggle with levels of depression and anxiety. My clients describe me as warm and friendly, and I have a direct style of communication. We often laugh together, as laughter has known healing value. My clients tell me that my analogies and metaphors are helpful in our work together.

I am committed and passionate about helping individuals improve their quality of life. Sometimes we have such uncomfortable feelings that we don't know how we will make it through the day. Sometimes really bad things happen to us and around that we might not know how to manage. Sometimes our bodies and minds take over and we feel like we have no control over our lives. We try to understand and control the symptoms: the anxiety, depression, anger, headaches, insomnia, stomach pain and fatigue. Sound familiar? I believe that understanding the mind-body connection is the first step to improving your mental health and well-being.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
