Harvard Pilgrim Therapists in Newmarket, NH
Everyone has the capacity to change. It is often the challenges of life stress, biology, and circumstances that keep us from becoming the person that we want to be. Therapy is a partnership and through mutual goal setting we can address the things that get in the way of your ability to do the things that are important to you. My professional experience has been with children and families and the challenges adults face as they create relationships or families of their own.

I view every client I work with through a mind-body-spirit perspective, and as unique individuals who are the experts on their own lives. Whether or not we lose our way, or lose our sense of self, there is a deep wisdom within us that remembers who we are, and that will guide us through what sometimes feels impossible. You can expect me to treat you with warmth, transparency, and compassion; to use skill, intuition, and evidence-based practices; and to keep your need for emotional safety forefront in my mind, as we embark on your healing journey, together. Note: I am not accepting clients at this time.

Are you facing a significant transition? Maybe it's related to a relationship, parenting, a career, a move, downsizing, health or loss. It may be a transition you have been contemplating or one you were put into unexpectedly. Whatever the circumstances, transitions bring change that move us outside of our comfort zone and can leave us feeling out of balance. If this sounds like you, I would love to help you gain a greater sense of control and wellbeing, as you navigate through your transition.

Most people considering therapy are deep into the pattern Albert Einstein warned of: "...doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results." Sadly, when life isn't working it can be difficult or frightening to think of options other than the old ones which perpetuate the distress and dysfunction. Finally picking up the phone can be the beginning you need. To learn more about my practice please visit my website at: www.drerniedowns.com

Seeking therapy is a sign of personal strength, not of weakness. It takes awareness in our lives and courage to be able to reach out for help. Often people who engage in therapy are actually doing well in life, but would like to do better in one area or another. Working with a licensed therapist can provide the objective and professional feedback needed to assist in defining challenges, developing goals, and working toward positive change. Benefits of therapy may include improved and more satisfying relationships, increased energy and productivity, and feelings of well-being.

I offer individual and partnered sessions - romantic, platonic, play, lifestyle, D/s, or any other meaningful partner.

Clients between the ages of 6 to 26 and their families. My specialties include skill building to support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, anger management, emotional regulation, bullying, relationship issues, and other mental health symptoms. Couples and Relationship Counseling. ON-LINE VIDEO COUNSELING AVAILABLE. All of us enter marriage or a committed relationship with a dream of spending a whole life together. Many couples find themselves struggling at some point- experiencing dissatisfaction and emotional pain. Some want to work it out but don't know how. Others have reached the point where both partners want to end the marriage/relationship. Still others are ambivalent, where one spouse is “leaning in” and the other “leaning out.” Some couples generally do well together but long to deepen their connection.

Over the past 15 years, I've had the opportunity to practice in a variety of settings and in the presence of clients from all walks of life. My primary educational focus has been on understanding the importance of integrating holistic theory into the realm of counseling and I've found great success in exploring this avenue of therapy with my clients.

I see clients of all ages with a variety of needs, my current practice is approximately 50/50 with adults and children who are struggling with anxiety, issues of adjustment, general emotional discomfort, and children with behavioral concerns. In my practice with children, I work closely with parents. I work to develop a comfortable rapport focusing on strengths and supports available to your child. I begin the process by meeting with both parents so that I may learn about your child through your eyes and better understand how the concerns are impacting your child.
