I have experience in teaching skills from CBT, DBT, and ACT, and I am EMDR trained.
I work with late teens, and adults primarily. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma, sexual trauma, gender dysphoria, and life transitions. I have additional training in complex trauma, sexual trauma, and EMDR. My general goal for clients is creating a safe space where clients can develop coping skills, heal relational trauma, and heal. I work in the LGBTQIA+ community quite a bit, and have experience with issues specific to that community. I engage clients in music therapy if it's appropriate to their treatment, and interests.

I am extremely passionate about supporting preteens, teens and adults ages 10+ who may be struggling in one or multiple areas of their lives. I recognize it may be difficult to take the first step in seeking out mental health support. I believe each individual client is unique and treatment modalities must vary based on each individual's needs. I offer a collaborative and warm environment while using a variety of modalities, often including aspects of CBT, EMDR and Narrative Therapy.

My treatment methodology is based on a strength-based, cognitive behavioral model that incorporates EMDR and other modalities.
Have you ever woken up and thought to yourself, "I can’t keep doing this,” only to find yourself doing the precise thing you swore off hours before? There comes a time when assistance is required to cope and overcome many of life's obstacles. I work with individuals to support them in recovering from addiction, changing bad habits, improving relationships, and overcoming life challenges. I tailor my methods to the individual, as each person presents with a unique personality and has different circumstances. I believe in fostering a deeply caring, non-judgmental atmosphere where you can feel heard and supported.

EMDR also enhances peak performance.
With 30 years of experience treating trauma and grief, I find that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing provides relief more rapidly than traditional talk therapies. I see adults at my location in Campton, NH or via Telehealth to adults in NH. Clients usually have disproportionate disturbance (anxiety, grief, depression) in the present that was conditioned by negative experiences in the past. Clients with symptoms of Chronic Complex PTSD or Substance Use Disorder maintain treatment with a primary therapist and my services are an adjunct treatment as long as symptoms are stabilized.

I believe that in our current healthcare climate the most frustrating and discouraging issue for patients is feeling unheard, unseen, judged, marginalized or placed in a “one-size fits all” treatment box. I am passionate about providing personalized medical services and addressing each one of my patients’ individual values and unique medical needs. My goal is to bring a kind, approachable and responsive style to every visit and interaction. I use a functional medicine perspective to address the root cause of symptoms including gut health, sleep, diet, stress, hormones, thyroid function, toxins, genetics and nutritional supplements.

I bring a holistic approach to my work. My knowledge and training is broad based and includes a high degree of clinical expertise in many diagnostic categories. I work from a strength-based perspective. My intent is to add knowledge and new skills to your abilities and approach to life's challenges; intellectually, mentally and emotionally. It has been said by multiple experts in the field that only about 15% of the population have the skills to do this work. For those who do, it can be very empowering. You may be one of them. I do a phone/video consultation to help us know if you would be a good fit for my practice and my style.

I work with clients 16 years or older. Therapy should be welcoming, warm, nonjudgmental, and it should feel safe. These are some of the things I'm focused on in the therapy room for my clients. I hope to provide you with the support you're looking for, from a real-life person who offers curiosity, humility, understanding, and a healthy dose of humor. I work with (but I am not limited to) mood disorders, trauma, substance use and co-occuring (both substance use and mental health), and LGBTQ+ issues.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
