Starting motherhood is exciting and challenging. Sometimes, you feel joyful and contented. Other times, you don't feel like yourself. You lose your temper for tiny things; you hate your postpartum body and cannot stand to look at yourself in the mirror; you feel guilty when you prioritize your needs and doubt if you can be a good mom. From a psychological view, I think all those thoughts are understandable because your body, career, relationships, and personal identity are all affected by your new role as a mother. Some unresolved psychological issues (such as attachment issues) you carry along can also get triggered under stress.

I work best with clients that are open to creative approaches or those who find their thoughts difficult to emerge merely through verbal expression. My clients are people of marginalized groups. My clients are those who need space for their voices. My clients have internal strength that they could not recognize in the moment. On my clinical journey so far, I have encountered young children and their families, adolescents and young adults, female groups, mixed-race clients, and elders at nursing homes. Issues that we worked with include grief, significant life-transitions, trauma, identities, family systems, and peer connections.

I often hear this from my clients “I am an angry/depressed/anxious person!” However, your depression/anxiety/anger is just a part of you, it is not all of you. I am interested in exploring this angry/depressed/anxious part with you. But I encourage you to notice other parts in you that were forgotten or hidden. I will support you to be aware and utilize these other parts. I invite your creativity, curiosity and playfulness. I might ask you to be certain parts of you such as letting you speak from the angry part and exaggerate it! All the parts are invited and accepted in this safe space.

I utilize a warm and collaborative approach to help child and adolescent clients develop effective coping skills, replace maladaptive behaviors, and ultimately achieve greater satisfaction in their lives. Parents have a central role in their children's wellbeing; therefore, I highly value their involvement in the therapeutic process. In addition to individual therapy for pediatric clients, I offer parent training, family sessions, and collaborate with teachers and other healthcare providers as needed in order to coordinate care.
