For those interested, I also have training in conversations around spirituality.
Life's challenges are best understood contextually and faced collaboratively. I believe we, as a society, have built a world that does not account for what we need to thrive. In counseling, I provide a warm, supportive, and, at times, challenging environment in service of your growth. If you’re struggling with patterns that are not working for you, I strive to provide a space for us to do the work of healing together. I work with adults of all ages.

I have a special interest in the healing power of nature, spirituality and Indian Ayurveda.
I find that unmanaged stress is the root cause of many mental health disorders. My work with clients includes helping them to identify triggers, understand the underlying causes of their stress and learn ways to balance the mind, body and spirit by building a daily self-care routine that includes mental, physical, emotional and spiritual practices. I use a variety of techniques depending on the age and needs of my client. I work primarily with teens, young adults, and adult women. I offer weekly classes and annual self-renewal retreats in addition to individual therapy.

Faith and personal spirituality can be a powerful, transformative resource no matter your individual affiliation.
At times, we find ourselves in seasons of life where we may feel disoriented and easily overwhelmed. We can begin questioning ourselves and wondering if we’ve chartered off course or lost our way. During challenging times, it can be easy to feel overburdened by heavy emotions, intrusive thoughts, and the simple tasks of everyday life. Navigating relationships, careers, finances, and other responsibilities can pile up and take their toll on our well-being.

This includes spirituality and sense of purpose, social connectedness, physical health and living an authentic life.
Congratulations on seeking help! You have taken the first step on the rewarding journey of healing and self-discovery. It takes real courage to face what may be overwhelming fear, despair and self-blame. But you don't have to struggle with the burden of hopelessness alone. Others that suffered in similar ways have gotten help even when therapy has not worked in the past. Whether one struggles with stress, relationship difficulties or with crippling self-doubt, therapy is used to identify barriers and cultivate tools that bring fresh perspective and resources to address the problem at hand.

My passions include music, poetry, creative writing, spirituality, and visual arts.
I aim to provide a safe and nurturing environment where individuals feel empowered to rediscover their inherent strength and wholeness. Often these fundamental aspects of ourselves can be blocked from our awareness by distortions of thought, faulty beliefs, traumas, or accumulated experiences, so I support my clients to identify these blocks and to learn let them go. As this process unfolds, we may work toward developing self-compassion, mindfulness, and healthy and fulfilling behavioral changes. My approach is a combination of person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and expressive arts therapy.

Spirituality.
I usually find that clients managing anxiety, depression, loss and/or addiction are first looking for a compassionate listener with the experience and knowledge that facilitates emerging inner strength. My approach is compassionate, non-judgmental and professional. Frequently my clients have issues with drugs or alcohol and I may work also with their partners, family, or concerned friends. I feel it is critical for everyone involved to know that they are not alone in their struggles, that support and guidance are available and that therapy has helped people feel better than they thought possible.

As a person in long term recovery myself I adopt a 'meet people where they're at' approach, ensuring individuals in any stage of recovery never feel judged for not being 'ready.' With over two decades of experience, I've worked in the field since 2002 with various substance use agencies in both urban and suburban areas. Additionally, I spent a prior decade engaging in 'field research' alongside years of integrated living experience. My personal journey has revealed that establishing a robust recovery support system, with a foundation in spirituality, can lead to a lasting and fulfilling life in recovery.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
