I am passionate about helping clients to be creative in finding solutions to their problems while encouraging understanding and acceptance.

Accepting new clients. Life gives us various hardships and trials. By seeking counseling I can help you navigate life's challenges, while personally growing in mental, emotional, and physical health. My therapeutic style is relaxed while remaining engaged and focused on client progress. While I enjoy working with individuals and couples, I particularly have a passion for working with teens and families. I utilize a family system approach, which encourages sessions with parents and children, alone and together. Most recently, I had the privilege of working for the CC Fire Department, serving the firefighters and their families.

I specialize in providing individuals with long term psychotherapy who are experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and self harm, PTSD, drug and alcohol misuse, and relationship difficulties, linked to childhood trauma. I employ elements from a range of therapeutic techniques, including Psychodynamic, Family-Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral theories.

It is my experience that "Life Happens" and sometimes we just don't have the tools to help us through the difficult times. Regardless of whether problems are small or large or even huge, they can add additional stress and anxiety to our already busy lives. When issues affect our relationships, our work and/or our health, it is time to seek help and support.

In recent years there has been an increase in mental health referrals for young children (3-6 years of age). They are having difficulty in developing emotional and social skills which they need to succeed at home, day care and pre-kinder school. Parents' main complaints are that their child is having frequent "emotional meltdowns", "temper tantrums", "verbal and physical aggression", "defiance", "shutting down", "clinging", "school refusal", and "stop talking". The child has reached an extreme level of emotional distress for him/herself and for others around them. I also provide therapy for adults.

We emphasize a collaborative narrative approach to therapy through therapeutic conversations to help people rediscover hope in the midst of the problem saturated stories of their current experiences. We help people rediscover hope in the midst of grief, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, marriage, divorce, physical disabilities, and other life adjustments. We are trained to help couples find and maintain a healthy relationship. We work with families, blended fmilies, and extended families as well as adolescents and individuals.

Her areas of focus include CNM/Poly/Alternative relationships, sexual assault, trauma, LQBTQ+ issues, sex and relational counseling, depression and anxiety, stress, cultural diversity, and personal growth. JoAnn specializes in individual, couples and family therapy, and maintains a private practice online through iTherapy.com. With experience in education and special education, JoAnn has also been an elementary school guidance counselor and is now a marriage and family therapist. A graduate of the University of New England, specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy, she is currently a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among her areas of expertise are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for chronic trauma and Emotionally Focues Therapy (EFT) for couples therapy.
