You are hard wired for connection. No matter the story you learned during your ‘how to human’ lessons-your brain literally needs deep, meaningful connections with other humans. And by being on this page, you and I both know that something you have learned in your journey up until this point is now in contrast with some vital aspect of your life and you are experiencing conflict. And this thing, this person, this job, whatever it is, it motivates you enough to think that perhaps there really could be a different narrative. And that hope, inspires you to wonder what I, Kristen Sanchez, could do to help.

Did you ever watch the movie, "Forrest Gump"? This movie has one of my favorite quotes, "My mama always said, Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." This makes perfect sense to me. I too am often sideswiped at the surprises in life. Ever since age 12, I'd ask every wise person I knew about each new life surprise. Then I'd read every book I could find on the topic. I now share this knowledge with you in bibliotherapy-the use of books in therapy (& cinema-therapy). I also have vast life experience. I offer a compassionate and open environment to explore and release the obstacles that cause us to limit our full potential. I believe that we experience conditions such as anxiety, depression, etc. when we are living incongruently from our true nature or essence. Often times, experiencing these strong emotional symptoms is the first sign that we are living out of balance. The longer the imbalance is present, the more susceptible our bodies become to developing disease. Working through and releasing emotional blocks is an important step towards full integration of the body, mind, and spirit.

Unfortunately, painful events in life are inevitable. The good thing is that suffering from these events can be optional. Helping people to build or rebuild a life with a new "normal" through these difficult times is something I have enjoyed doing for almost 25 years. I have had the privilege of working with people by addressing a variety of issues including substance abuse and other addictions, co-occurring disorders, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationships, divorce, unresolved grief, co-dependency, and anger management to name a few. Together, we can restore the peace, serenity and confidence back in your life.

Do you often find yourself going back and forth about making a change in your head? Is part of you wanting to make that change and part of you not feeling sure or quite ready yet? This is all part of the change process, and you are probably further along than you realize! Sometimes a new perspective and new tools can help us "get off the seesaw" and get closer to the life we want to have. I often see clients who are dealing with trauma, substance use, anxiety, or depression. I work to build a space of non-judgment and acceptance so my clients can be seen exactly as they are without fear, so we can find the path forward together.

Hi, my name is Aaron Jarrels. I specialize in communication and relationship therapy. My main focus is to assist my clients with the areas of their lives they are not happy with. Changing their minds in a way that allows them to see the world in a new way and from their distinct and unique perspective. We all have an inherent desire to be seen, known, and loved. We long to live in joy and freedom. But the imperfections of this world and the wounds we experience can leave us feeling anxious, fearful, ashamed, unloved, and unwanted. We can feel so overwhelmed that it gets in the way of living life to the fullest—the lives we were created to live. My hope is to help you uncover those wounds in your heart and gently guide you toward true healing. You were created for joy and freedom. You are worth taking that next step toward healing and I would be honored to walk beside you.

As a therapist, my mission has been to help people come to a place where they realize that they are never too lost or never to broken to heal, to thrive, to love and be loved in return. I understand that there are neurological disorders and also times that medication is necessary, but I also strongly believe that a lot of our day to day struggles are rooted in our attachment relationships with ourselves and others along with trauma that we may or may not be aware of in our lives that has not been healed.

A big part of my practice centers around serving those suffering from anxiety. This can be children struggling to manage changes in their lives, teens overwhelmed with the pressure they are experiencing, or adults struggling to balance responsibilities. I see a fair amount of children with ADHD diagnoses and have worked effectively in utilizing behavioral strategies to aid in symptomology, as well as balancing therapeutic skills with medication. I am trained in trauma and attachment and see children, teens, and adults struggling with these issues. As a trained play therapist, I employ aspects of play therapy with all clients.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
