Did you ever watch the movie, "Forrest Gump"? This movie has one of my favorite quotes, "My mama always said, Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." This makes perfect sense to me. I too am often sideswiped at the surprises in life. Ever since age 12, I'd ask every wise person I knew about each new life surprise. Then I'd read every book I could find on the topic. I now share this knowledge with you in bibliotherapy-the use of books in therapy (& cinema-therapy). I also have vast life experience. I am glad you are here, taking steps toward putting yourself first. As a clinical therapist, I provide a person-centered approach to therapy, by creating a supportive and encouraging environment to help you move towards your optimal health. It is my belief that we need to develop protective parts to help us navigate through traumatic and stressful times. Our past can keep us stuck in old patterns. My goal is that together we reprocess past experiences to recreate new, healthier patterns for relationships, or other vulnerable areas in your life.

Welcome-I'm very happy you're here! I provide telehealth counseling services and am licensed in the states of Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Washington. My belief as a clinician holds that the most useful tool in therapy is the collaborative relationship between therapist and client. I operate from what is often referred to as a psychodynamic or relational psychodynamic approach. In therapy our tasks are to build a trusting relationship, to discover and understand your beliefs/feelings on their deepest levels, to discover how your history and experiences have shaped your beliefs, and then to address how these beliefs have helped

Through insightful psychodynamic approaches, I engage what lies beneath and the potential that lives within the unthought known.
I have a full and deep life of experience to draw from in meeting my clients in sacred space. The loss of a son, a marriage, a career, accumulated material rewards, and most importantly, the potential of life unlived; dreams unfulfilled. This is soul work. Prepared by the vulnerability of my story, I hold insight and compassion for those whose burdens must be eased into, passed through, and reborn into new purpose, for the quality of our life is in our overcoming. Navigating the troubled waters of depression, anxiety, relational fissures, and archetypal energies is the first threshold of a healing journey.

Is pain from the past inhibiting you from living the life you envisioned for yourself? Does it feel like you've been through so much that it's hard to even conceive of such an "envisioning?" Save that stuff for once you're out of survival mode, right? The fact is, trauma alone is not uncommon- it's part of being a human being. But for some of us, these traumas have been so severe that we can struggle to bounce back, feeling adrift and alone. Like journeying across the ocean when a storm cracks your mast, emotional trauma can leave us feeling lost, confused, and even desperate without a sail. How do we get back to dry land?

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
