I help those that are struggling with anxiety, depression, parent/child difficulties, marital/relationship problems, acute and chronic illness, and grief.
***Telehealth Sessions Available. I believe in taking a systemic approach to therapy, focusing on how we are shaped by emotional, physical, social and spiritual parts of our lives. If one area is being affected the others will be affected as well. I help people look at areas in their lives where they feel stuck and help to create movement in those areas. Using the client's expertise in their own lives I help guide them in creating new, more meaningful and beneficial patterns in their lives. In turn this helps them to reach their full potential.

I specialize in offering counseling services to those living with chronic illness, and to their caregivers.
If you have experienced attachment wounding, trauma, abuse, or neglect, these wounds can often leave you feeling hopeless. However, through careful treatment planning and therapeutic care, we can work together to repair and restore these areas in your life. What does hope mean to you? It may be a small flicker that sustains your daily life. It could be an anchoring source of confidence and resilience. Or hope may hold deep spiritual significance to you. Whatever hope looks like for you, it is my desire to nourish hope in your life through our work together.

What does it mean to "take care of your mental health?" It's easier to tell when you aren't taking care of it: chronic stress, exhaustion, worry, and panic are all signs your mental health is suffering. If untreated, you could start having nightmares, poor health, trouble in your relationships, and difficulty staying on top of work or school. There are many things that can lead to mental health struggles, like a too-busy schedule, a chronic illness or someone else's troubles, a major life transition, or a death of someone close to you. Or, it could seem to come out of the blue, caused by nothing at all.

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing Trauma, Chronic Illness, Anxiety, Depression and PTSD.
Sometimes the ways of the world and personal stressors conflict with what we need to be ok. It can often be difficult to manage and cope with how racism, violence, employment, chronic illness, relationships, parenting, abuse, and past trauma impacts one’s mental and physical health. If your goal is to learn who you are and how to live your authentic self, you have arrived at the right place. I utilize Integrative therapy, which makes room for inclusivity and flexibility at meeting client differences. This includes Cognitive Behavioral, DBT, Family Systems, Gestalt, etc. Diversity in people demands diversity in approaches!

“Live life to the fullest.” “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” “When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.” These are great, but life is more complex than cliché quotes. As your counselor, it is my pleasure to partner with you to find real joy in life again. True freedom does take work and can feel terrible as you work through the pain, but is it worth it? 100%! You are worthy of happiness, freedom, and wholeness, even if you don’t currently feel it.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
