Hello there. I am a compassionate advocate for mental health and LGBTQIA+ community. I am licensed in Iowa and Nebraska, a certified HeartMath provider, trained in Trauma Informed Care I & II, and DBT. Through my experience I have worked with teenagers, adults, and couples (CNM and mono). My specialty populations include LGBTQIA+, gender and sexuality, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, substance use, and codependency/ boundary concerns. My counseling approach builds on a simple foundation – getting to know you, your strengths, your challenges, and what your goals are. We can work together to establish a treatment to achieve them.

My favorite thing about being a Mental Health Counselor is that I have a front row seat to witness the life change and healing that can take place in the therapeutic environment. Seeking counseling is a brave step and I enjoy coming alongside my clients and to help them find the tools in order to empower themselves toward their desired growth. I have approximately twenty years of experience working with adolescents, adults and families dealing with issues pertaining to depression and anxiety disorders, past trauma, stress and anger management, family and relationship difficulties, behavioral problems, positive decision making, and grief/loss. As the wife of a retired Air Force veteran, I have a comprehensive understanding of the issues and difficulties facing service members and their families. I also have extensive experience addressing client trauma and aspire to assist clients in reprocessing their trauma so that they can lead full and healthy lives.

Many of us did not grow up knowing that it was important - and okay - to take care of our mental health. We heard talking about going to the doctor when you are sick, but nothing about seeking counseling - therapy - when our thoughts, feelings, or behaviors aren't well. But seeing a therapist is just as important and normal as visiting your doctor. Our minds and bodies are one, endlessly affecting one another both positively and negatively. If we are unwell physically, then our mental health can suffer AND vise versa.

I have worked in the Omaha and surrounding communities for over 30 years in community service agency and private practice . I am licensed for both mental health and alcohol/drug counseling. I have had the opportunity to experience a wide variety of issues that people bring to psychotherapy as well as being mentored by leading practitioners in the area. I have been working in the field of mental health and addiction for over 20 years. I am also a certified hypnotherapist. I treat individuals and couples. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, and addiction. Hypnosis is very effective in treating trauma. I am also a certified master trainer of hypnosis. Steve Brownrigg provides outpatient, substance abuse and chemical dependency counseling services to those affected by alcoholism and other addictions. I specialize in treating those clients with who are Dually-Diagnosed, with mental health disorders in addition to addiction issues. I am Certified by EMDRIA in the use of EMDR for Sexual Trauma and other Childhood issues. I also offer couples counseling and co-dependency counseling for significant others. Often, spouses or significant others begin counseling in advance of the alcoholic/addict to work on their own issues and to learn how to effectively deal with their loved one.
