I have a passion for helping people who are in need. I want to help them develop the skills necessary to do whatever it is they want to do. In my field, that's often a goal of sobriety and recovery. It's not for me to decide what is best for my clients. I try to help them determine if their current actions help or hinder their own goals in life. I offer a place where my clients can be themselves without receiving any judgement from me. I help clients in their areas of need, and in the areas in which they want help. I believe an honest, caring therapeutic relationship is important to provide the help my clients need.

Most of my clients seek me out because they also desire a Christian atmosphere in which to pursue healing.
My clients tell me that they feel like they launched into adulthood without the necessary tools to navigate life and relationships. As one client put it, "I feel as if I entered adulthood without a clear direction for becoming myself, succeeding in my marriage, or successfully parenting my children. But you've given me my map." I specialize in helping people understand how their past impacts their present, and then help them evolve and journey into their future with more confidence and useful tools for living a fulfilling life. My training has been quite diverse thus I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and needs. My ideal client is an individual who understands the need to seek help or guidance and is willing to work with me on these concerns. I have over 18 years of clinical experience and enjoy working with "systems" (e.g., schools, families, support systems). I prioritize consultation with schools when addressing school-based behaviors such as underachievement, learning disabilities, and bullying concerns. I take a "strength-based" approach, always attempting to work within the clients talents and building from that point forward.

I provide Christian counseling for those experiencing anxiety and depression due to a life transition or trauma.
Are you struggling with anxiety and depression due to life transitions such as divorce, infertility, the death of a loved one, college stress or the loss of a dream, and seeking Christian counseling? Have you experienced trauma in your life and you feel stuck under the weight of worry and fear? Are “shoulds” and “musts” leaving you paralyzed with thoughts of “I’m not good enough” and “I don’t matter”? Often people wait to reach out until they feel depleted, resentful, and ashamed. I believe we get stuck due to our thinking, and the way we get unstuck is to change our thinking! But is it possible? Yes! It doesn't have to be this way!

If you have experienced attachment wounding, trauma, abuse, or neglect, these wounds can often leave you feeling hopeless. However, through careful treatment planning and therapeutic care, we can work together to repair and restore these areas in your life. What does hope mean to you? It may be a small flicker that sustains your daily life. It could be an anchoring source of confidence and resilience. Or hope may hold deep spiritual significance to you. Whatever hope looks like for you, it is my desire to nourish hope in your life through our work together.

Kathleen has an MA in Biblical Counseling from Colorado Christian University and an MA from Crown College, which included experience in ministry and grief counseling.
Our deepest longings are to be seen, known, cherished, and touched. But often we live alone and thirsty in the wilderness. Relationships with families, friends, co-workers, and/or church community may be filled with trauma, anxiety, betrayal, pain, or ongoing stress. We may be in a state of brokenness, completely shut down, trapped by anger and grief or stuck in a meaningless rut. Strategies that had once managed life may be working against the relief we desire. Efforts to protect ourselves keep relationships shallow and distant. As a result, there is a deep thirst in our soul that nothing seems to satisfy.

I also offer Christian Counseling based on sound, biblical values.
Relationships are vital to becoming a whole person, including your relationship with yourself. But quality relationships don't happen by accident. Real love is built the old fashioned way - through hard work. Whether you're struggling with how you view and treat yourself or struggling with others, therapy is a wise investment and can help you learn to manage the very best of who you are. This involves developing a skill set that will enable you to learn how powerful you really are in forming lasting connections with others and take an honest look at the barriers to those connections.

Christian Therapists
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.
Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?
Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.
How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?
Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.
Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?
While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.
Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?
The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
