Whether you are in California or North Carolina (licensed in both States), don't hesitate to reach out; the first step is often the hardest! Modalities include Attachment-Based, Client Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Family Systems, Feminist, Grief Therapy, Mindfulness-Based, Person-Centered, Strength-Based and Trauma-Focused.
We all need a place where we can feel safe and validated with our emotions/life transitions. It can be difficult to open-up and talk about life-stressors to a stranger. Sometimes, we can feel unheard or alone, or just need someone who can be a helping, compassionate, and nonjudgmental ear. In therapy, we can mend fractured and fragmented pieces of ourselves that have been damaged by relationships and trauma. Together, we can bring out positive change in our lives; we can challenge negative cognitions and dissonance. Together, we can begin the path of healing. When YOU are ready, I am here to start the therapeutic journey with you!

My therapeutic style is guided by a trauma-informed lens, rooted in feminist multicultural therapy.
Life and change are hard. You are burdened by all of the expectations around you; work, family, and cultural pressures to act/live your life a certain way. Maybe you feel like you don’t fully belong and you’re stressed. I bet that you’re also having a hard time feeling happy. I help my clients live a more authentic life for themselves while also honoring their values and culture. My goal is to support you in gently peeling back the layers, navigating what life throws your way, and teaching you skills to manage all of the stress.

Having spent over a decade working in University Counseling Centers, I enjoy working with individuals at points in their life of growth or transition, whether forced upon them or chosen. Change is hard, when it's chosen and even more so when it's not. Having support can empower you to use the momentum created by change to create the life you want for yourself, instead of feeling overwhelmed and paralyzed by all that life changes require. Whether in a moment of distress or a desire to grow beyond the past, I value the opportunity to support clients in finding choices that allow them to live a more balanced and genuine life.

I view clients as whole people in the context of their lives. You are more than a diagnosis. It's important to me to collaborate in setting goals, selecting an approach to therapy, and checking in along the way. I've worked with people from a broad range of backgrounds on anxiety, relationships, stress, depression, life transitions, and LGBTQ+ issues. I also specialize in couples counseling for smart, committed partners who want to improve communication, feel more loved, work as a team instead of against each other, or just get unstuck from an old issue or pattern.

Are you someone that seems to have it all together on the outside but in reality mask your struggles? Maybe you are often seen as resilient, successful, creative, and helpful yet you are challenged daily with perfectionism, isolation, and self-neglect. These are the reasons many seek therapy to find relief. I am a licensed clinical social worker and addiction specialist and my specialty involves working with children and adults that have experienced a life stressor, trauma, or abuse that continues to impact them physically and emotionally.

My theoretical approach utilizes Existentialist Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Hey there! My therapeutic approach is a simple one: everyone and anyone is welcome in my office, I believe that you are the expert on you, and as your therapist it is my role to help you facilitate progress towards your life goals and/or settling any conflicts you might be facing. For us, that begins by simply building rapport and a sense of transparency between you and myself. As a therapist, I’ve gained clinical experience with clients working through anxiety, depression, stress, academic concerns, family turmoil, identity concerns, body image concerns (specializing with males) as well as emotional, physical and sexual trauma.

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
