Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with over 17 years of experience in the field. I have dedicated my life to helping others define and create the life that they want and am passionate in my efforts to serve all those that are suffering from the challenges of mental health and life transitions. My approach is holistic and I utilize several therapeutic modalities to include CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, DBT and Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment. I work to meet you where you are and utilize the appropriate interventions.

I appreciate the variety and have the skills to help a wide range of patients, but I'm especially useful with patients who've had problems connecting with other therapists. I'm very familiar with physical and sexual abuse, but also with alienation and with spiritual and emotional trauma. Adoption and attachment issues are also a special interest. I'm trained and certified (Level II) in EMDR and DNMS, trauma-based treatments for people whose developmental needs were not met as children. I have extensive experience working with PTSD and dissociative patients, but also with "plain vanilla" folks -- of varying ethnicities -- challenged by difficult circumstances.

Jacob Blackstock, LCMHCA, NCC earned his Master of Education (M.ED.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from UNC Pembroke in 2016 and is currently finishing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Counseling and Counselor Education from UNC Greensboro. Jacob’s dissertation research focuses on loneliness in young adults and Jacob hopes to use this research to help young adults form healthier connections with others. Jacob has experience working in hospital, community agency, and college counseling settings.

I provide basic mental health counseling and psychoeducational services to pediatric and adult populations between the ages of 10 and adult. Specifically, I serve persons with general mental health concerns and who have experienced trauma. I believe there is a significant interplay between cognition, affect, and behaviors. As a family systems therapist, I view clients from the perspective of their holistic environment. Together we will look at where you are coming from, and where you want to go. There is a soft spot in my heart for teens, young families, couples, men, and those who grieve.

When working with my client's I understand there is not a one-size-fits all kind of treatment, and try to tailor to my client's needs as much as possible. Ultimately, I want to try to help you help yourself so you can be independent as possible, but have some guidance when it comes to figuring out life challenges so you do not have to face them alone.

I view a big part of my role as helping clients overcome narratives and beliefs that lead to feelings of shame, failure, and hopelessness. In working together, we will identify where these stories may be present, what their impacts are, and how you can rewrite them. I use Narrative Therapy, EMDR, The Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) to help individuals and couples realize their potential.

My perspective is that I'm the GPS and you're the driver- you know where you are isn't where you want to be and I am there to guide you and re-route as needed. I have worked with a wide range of clients with a focus on military members and dependents, life stressors, trauma (combat and otherwise), marital distress, depression, anxiety, and domestic violence. I am LGBT+, kink, and sex work friendly. I believe that it takes courage to come to therapy and you deserve authenticity and a space where you can address your concerns without fear of being judged.
