Many people can be too hard and not kind enough to themselves. Life is difficult enough, and not being on their own side through their struggles makes it even more so. Whether you’re new to therapy or have some experience with it, starting with a new therapist can be overwhelming. I invite you to a warm, inviting space where you are able to show your full self. I tend to use a holistic and integrative approach. Your sessions are your time and I will meet you where you’re at while providing a therapist viewpoint.

My work is integrative; using modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), existentialism, mindfulness, and strengths based therapy; and faith/spirituality if desired.
You've overcome trauma in your life. You are successful, but new changes are bringing up emotions that are difficult to manage. Maybe they are emotions that you haven't felt in awhile and you need a safe place to process them. Maybe you've felt them, but your current coping skills are no longer working. You are ready for relief from these emotions. You're ready to let go of the past and start this new chapter with ease, but the people who care about you want to help, but don't know how. You are ready to rewrite your story and be confident in yourself and your relationships.

I believe that people are the experts of their own experience, and that my role as your therapist is to work alongside you to explore and conquer barriers to personal growth and promote positive change and healing. Having had experience as both a therapist and therapy client, I have an acute understanding of the importance of the client-therapist relationship in impacting successful therapy. I practice trauma-informed, integrative psychotherapy using a combination of treatment approaches depending on the individual needs of each client. This enables me to provide individualized therapy that builds on my clients’ strengths.

I am a licensed health services provider psychologist who works with adults using an integrative clinical approach. I use various techniques combined in a personalized way, alongside a consistent framework, to address what clients would like to be different in their lives. This grounds treatment in a firm understanding of: clients’ identities, histories, & values; as well as the mind-body-spirit connection. Emphasis is placed on context, meaning-making, & the therapeutic relationship as central to the change process. I specialize in working with members of historically marginalized groups; especially women of color.

I have a Trauma Focused Certification but use an integrative approach that includes crisis intervention, mindfulness, grounding, solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing.
If you feel unsure on how to navigate through daily life stress, you're not alone. Sometimes we get caught up in the different roles we fulfill and lose ourselves in the process. Maybe you've coped with mental and emotional instability by suppressing how you feel or have engaged in negative behaviors that make the situation worse. Whatever your going through, it won't define who you are nor should you allow it to hold you hostage. You have the inner strength to push through any circumstance, all you need is support and the right motivation.

I'd love the opportunity to connect with you to show you how my integrative approach can help you gain understanding and self-resiliency.
You've been in therapy before. And you're psychologically savvy enough to know that growth doesn't have to do with finding a diagnosis and grabbing a few coping skills for the road. As any normal human does, we develop narratives and behavioral patterns to help us ignore, numb, protect, or compartmentalize our psychological conflicts. If you're reading this and you can relate, I see you. You need to find a therapist who can help you to dig deep enough to identify these patterns and change the old narratives. Some of these patterns MAY include:

Accepting new clients! My primary therapeutic approach is Person-Centered, which is based on the notion that clients have a capacity for self-awareness. I believe that clients are capable of healing themselves, can create their own self-growth, & are their own change agents. I consider counseling to be a collaborative process with both the counselor and client. I align with taking an integrative approach because I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. In addition to person-centered, I utilize techniques from CBT. Every client has a different narrative and, therefore, should have a unique approach to each scenario.

Northern Piedmont Counseling is part of an educational, training, and clinical services network composed of wellness-oriented professionals from various integrative disciplines, unified by a common mission to promote a better world starting with strategic, vital relationships.
Don't over-think therapy. It's just not that complicated. When things get difficult, it's often hard to ask for help. We all face challenges, and we often overcome them on our own. Sometimes it takes much longer than we'd like, and that's when therapy comes into play. Why spend months or years taking on a situation or challenge by yourself, when you could work through it in far less time? Insanity is doing the same things, over and over, and expecting different results. Try something new, and break those old patterns.

My approach is best described as integrative.
Feeling stuck? Stressed? Counseling may be your answer. Working together, I help my clients find relief from their emotional pain and assist them in finding a path they can feel good about. Superior therapy is dependent on the quality of the relationship between therapist and client. I prefer to treat my clients the way I want to be treated by my health care providers; with respect for their time, a warm personality, and with a positive attitude. Please note I formerly practiced under the surname Bressler.

I use an integrative, client centered approach, where we incorporate mindfulness, narrative, experiential, and other work depending on the best fit.
Are you spinning your wheels? Have you tried, again and again, to just get this thing called life to work for you, but nothing seems to stick? I've been there, and I get it. Our lives are the stories of our being in the world, and I work with individuals, couples, and families to look at the big picture of the story of YOUR life. We will explore not only the “how” of your life and the challenges that it brings, but also the “why” of these same issues, so that you can finally make some progress and begin to live with greater fulfillment and ease of being in the world.

Integrative Therapists

What is integrative therapy?

Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.

How does integrative therapy work?

Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behavior patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.

How long does integrative therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

How effective is integrative therapy?

There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
