I take a humanistic approach which assumes that people have the ability to change and grow despite past experiences/challenges.
Many people seek therapy because of stress, anxiety, sadness, low self esteem, anger, feelings of isolation and general unfulfillment. Life is sometimes a challenge that is hard and complicated to navigate. There is hope! I have successfully treated adults, adolescents, and families working through mood/emotional challenges, stress, life transitions, identity exploration, grief/loss, and abuse issues. I work to create a warm, safe, supportive relationship while working (at your pace) to create the peaceful, authentic life and genuine relationships that you desire.

I have a compassionate, warm, non-judgmental clinical approach guided by a humanistic/relational, person-centered, present-oriented, and trauma-informed framework.
Are you struggling to find help that's right for you? Are you facing difficult life transitions and unsure of how to proceed? Are you dealing with the burden of shame or guilt alone? Do you want a non-judgmental space to examine your relationship to substances? Are there behaviors you would like to change but unsure of where to start? I provide radically compassionate and accepting care to people with all life experiences and stories. I believe that a collaborative, safe, and strong relational connection is the foundation for providing a therapeutic space for clients to experience empowered growth and change.

At Bright View Counseling we are breaking the traditional mold of talk therapy and counseling and bringing a new, brighter idea of what therapy could and should look like with our ‘Therapy With A Twist!’ approach. Our therapy approach is holistic, humanistic, and person-focused. We bring the power of the natural world into the therapeutic process. We take walks outside, participate in outdoor activities with clients, and integrate activities and games. We also get a helping paw from our office dog, Charlotte, who comes into sessions to provide a furry friend to hug, pet, and receive emotional support from.

Via humanistic, psychodynamic, "family" systems, and transpersonal techniques we will partner to empower you to create more fulfilling and rewarding life ultimately becoming Beautifully Woven.
I commend you for taking the first step in creating a life that you love. So many of us are in the midst of experiencing life challenges that cause us pain. These challenges take many forms – family issues, health concerns, loneliness, financial strain, anxiety about the future…Sometimes, what may be causing us distress are dreams that have gone unfulfilled; life not going as planned. For many of us, we’ve struggled with such questions as, “Am I enough?”, “Who has my back?”, “Will I ever have the life that I want?”

Theoretical concepts of Humanistic, Interpersonal, CBT, Contemplative and Positive Psychology are applied.
Mishaps, uncontrollable circumstances, relationships, personal experiences, all contribute to our development. At any age or stage in life, stunted growth and development may occur. Finding the courage and trust to explore our inner selves is never easy. Finding the right person to help you through your journey can be equally challenging. If unconditional, nonjudgemental support is what you seek to help with your unique life challenges, I bring my best to help you. My therapeutic practice provides a safe, compassionate, fully supported, experience.

I am also a humanistic and existential psychologist, which means I help clients discover what they really want in life and how to get it.
You may be someone used to figuring things out on your own, but you’ve run out of ideas or want a fresh perspective. Maybe you have sought help before but were frustrated by the pace of your previous therapy. Perhaps life has thrown you a curveball, and it’s time to make some changes. Either way, you want real solutions as well as support and encouragement. My clinical judgment is tempered by real-world experience. I've raised two kids to adulthood, been married, divorced, and happily remarried. I’m an ex-Business guy. I have a Ph.D. in Psychology, I’ve run real businesses, coached top execs, and been helping people for 25+ years.

I primarily see couples, teens, individuals, and families, and work from humanistic and family systems approaches; as well as faith-based upon request.
Taking NEW clients: Are you searching for healing for your marriage/relationship? Are you an individual dealing with the overwhelming stressors of life or want to reconnect to your emotions? Maybe a teen or young adult working through identity development? These specific areas, among many others, is why I'm here. I care about the health of the individual and the family unit, and believe when it's thriving and growing, all members thrive and grow and heal. It takes courage to ask for help, and I believe your courage will be rewarded. Let's take that next step together!

I primarily use a humanistic approach where we can build off your unique strengths, however, I will pull from other approaches as needed (cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy, dialectical behavior skills, mindfulness therapy).
How we view ourselves greatly impacts how we feel and interact with the world around us. The most challenging part about this is that we often are not fully aware of how we view ourselves, or how this impacts us, or what to do with the information after we learn this. I strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for people to increase self-awareness and build the skills to use this awareness to their advantage. I specialize in anxiety and mood disorders. I aim to assist people in shifting their relationship with stress, anxiety, depression and other unpleasant emotions to move forward with their goals.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
