Evidence based interventions I frequently use include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy.
Let’s sit down together and start changing your narrative to reflect the best version of you. Navigating through life can be stressful and difficult however you do not have to walk this path alone. Through identifying negative thought patterns or learning how old behavior patterns have not always served you well, I am confident we can get you on a path to a brighter future.

Hello! I’ve worked as a licensed counselor since 2017, with previous experience as a social worker. My focus is working with adults who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depressive symptoms, relational difficulties, family issues, substance use, and severe mental illnesses. My theoretical orientation is an integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT), Solution Focused Behavioral Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Mindfulness. I have learned that no two people are the same and that everyone must be treated individually and holistically.

In addition to cognitive processing, I have experience practicing dialectical behavior therapy targeted to treat bipolar I, bipolar II, and borderline personality disorders.
Are you finding yourself in the “vicious cycle” of anxiety or depression? Do you feel like some days you are functioning on auto pilot? This can be incredibly draining. I have found that sometimes our experiences, whether good or bad, can shape the way our thought patterns affect our moods and decisions and too often these thought patterns tangle themselves in an ever-weaving web. I primarily practice from a cognitive processing perspective, which is intended to help you untangle that web and begin to remove yourself from the vicious cycle of maladaptive, anxiety and depression-invoking thoughts.

My theoretical approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT).
Life happens to all of us, unfortunately, what to do when it does is a question that stumps many of us. Sometimes it's an unexpected phone call or experience that alters the trajectory of life, leaving us gripped by defeat, anxiety, and despair. Other times, it's the pain of past wounds (or sometimes present)/trauma caused by someone who was supposed to love and protect us that weighs on us like a ton of bricks, stifling our ability to move forward. At LCG of NC, we hear you, feel you, and we believe that with the right support, you can achieve, overcome, improve, defy, and ultimately win in life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
