I use an eclectic approach to treatment combining different modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Are you feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or unsatisfied in life? Are you struggling to accept and love your body? You may be feeling stuck or lost, but living a values based, fulfilling life is possible. My goal is to support clients to creating a life they desire through consistent empathy and unconditional positive regard. Therapy can be a powerful tool in increasing quality of life and the therapeutic relationship is essential in this process. I am a Health at Every Size (HAES) aligned provider. Note: I am newer to this practice (but not to being a therapist), so I have sessions available almost immediately. I'd love to help.

I work from an eclectic approach of gestalt, DBT, IFS, and Narrative to help uncover your unmet needs, and seek how to fulfill them in ways that serve you.
As a therapist, I foundationally work from the belief that all humans deserve to feel safe and at home in their bodies. In this messy world, we can often find ourselves not trusting our bodies and wanting to change them. Sometimes within that mess, people may find themselves coping in ways that do not address their deep, underlying needs. I believe in this therapeutic process, you can reconnect with those needs and serve them more intentionally, healing the deepest parts of yourself. My goal is not only to help you find that healing, but to also enjoy and accept the messiness along the way.

I am trained in DBT and often integrate CBT and ACT modalities.
Do you find yourself feeling on edge, like you just can't slow down? You get stuck in the details and desperately want things to be 'just right'; you are high achieving - sometimes at the cost of your health. People marvel at you juggling it all, but they probably don't realize you are exhausted and don't know how to ask for, or even accept help; maybe you are just realizing you deserve support too! Together we can will work to find a way to create harmony between you and your goals, your relationships, and even your body. You will not be alone in this journey as we create tangible and easily applicable changes to create peace.

I work from a strengths-based perspective and incorporate pieces of DBT (for dialectical thought & behavior), CBT (for connecting thoughts and actions and challenging them), MI (for meeting you where you are at and rolling with you), and ACT (for understanding how to separate thoughts from self & discern core values).
Reaching out for support can feel daunting and intimidating and I want to help you feel as comfortable as possible throughout the process. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and not worrying if you are doing something right or wrong or if it's too soon or too late to ask any questions. I strive to be empathetic and understanding of people and how we show up daily—no judgments, no dumb questions...just non-judgmental support because that’s what we all deserve.

I am psychodynamically trained, and focus largely on attachment style and early attachment ruptures, but I am also trained in a number of evidence-based modalities: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and several protocols for trauma: Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD, and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
Perhaps you're struggling with anxiety and depression. Maybe you have been diagnosed with a mood or personality disorder. I have answers for these clinical presentations. I also have particular competence working with couples in distress, trauma survivors, and people who would like additional support with their interpersonal relationship style and self-esteem. Those experiencing negative life events, such as divorce, job loss, and those wanting to repair prior ruptures in relationships will also find my experience useful. Another aspect of my work involves athletes who are looking to remove obstacles to peak performance.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
