Welcome to my practice! I'm Denetra Gary, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Maryland (LCSW-C), and North Carolina (LCSW). I'm a Christian-based counselor and use the Bible as my foundation. I have thirteen years of experience in social work and mental health counseling. My therapeutic focus includes working with adults, teens, and children who struggle with anxiety, depression, and chronic disorganization. I'm confident and dedicated to helping you reach your goals.

I know life can be challenging. It’s not always easy. As one journeys through life, there comes a time when we all need the love and support of someone who cares. For this reason, it has always been my passion to help those who are in need of that love and support. With a non-judgmental attitude and a heart of compassion I aim to meet you where you are. My hope is to walk alongside you in an effort to help you achieve your therapeutic goals.

Knox Christian Counseling specializes in treating women ages 5 and up that are looking for trauma-informed Christian counseling. A traumatic experience can be anything that has been emotionally difficult to endure. Some examples may be physical abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, school violence, divorce, death, disruption in your living environment, homelessness, or witnessing someone else experience a trauma. These experiences can cause feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, guilt, depression, anxiety, avoidance and nightmares. Carrying on with your day to day life becomes difficult.

I am a mother, a veteran, a christian, a counselor and a survivor. I have a passion for my work and I pride myself in caring about the interest of my clients and their concerns. I know that sometimes life hurdles prevent us from living the life we so richly deserve. From time to time we may face difficulties in our life, our relationships or finding a peace within ourselves. I utilize an individualized, integrative and eclectic approach in therapy to assist individuals in reaching their self-determined goals.

Each day brings a new challenge, that we often navigate while juggling various responsibilities. Yet, there are moments when we face situations that leave us feeling unbalanced, overwhelmed, and unsure; impacting our mental and emotional well-being. If left unaddressed, these imbalances can lead to both mental and physical breakdowns. Feelings of depression, constant fear, anger, loneliness, hopelessness, and more are not a way of life you have to accept. I am a person-centered therapist who uses the guide-collaborator approach to provide a safe space to empathetically build a therapeutic rapport with clients. My theoretical model of choice is CBT with elements of CPT, NET, and DBT. I meet my clients where they are in their stage of readiness for change. I find this is the optimum approach in being responsive to the individual's needs. This approach allows my techniques to be flexible and integrative. I incorporate psychoeducational components on symptom impact of diagnosis, the influence of negative schemas, porous boundaries, ineffective communication styles, and attachment styles.

For us, counseling is a way to direct people to hope so that they can experience joy and wholeness.

I have approximately 10 years of experience working with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, family problems, OCD, and trauma. I am also a parent and a pastor's wife, and I have experience working with parenting struggles, spiritual concerns, and church problems. My therapy style is meant to create a safe space that is warm, comfortable, and motivating. I value your trust and want you to feel comfortable being open about your goals for therapy.

Accepting New Clients -I am a Christian Counselor and Life Strategist. What this means is that I use psychology and Biblical principles to help you create and live your best life possible. This is important to me because all my life I’ve had dreams about Big accomplishments, Big success, and Big things. When I looked around, I was convinced that I was living the wrong life. It wasn’t until I began to learn and apply Biblical principles to my life that I realized that I wasn’t living the wrong life, but my life was what I created. I had to unlearn, relearn, and then begin creating the life and relationships I desired.

The Landing Place, PLLC is opening January 2024! Our clinic offers therapy for children, adolescents, families, and young adults. We specialize in parent-child relationships, childhood trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, adoptee identity formation, life transitions, and Christian faith-integration (upon request). Our mission is to empower every child and family to transform challenges into strengths, celebrate mistakes as stepping stones, and illuminate untold stories that make each individual and family unique. At our core, we strive to collaboratively build relationships - and do so by having fun!

As an Ordained Minister for 23 years and licensed counselor for 5 yrs I'm deeply passionate about integrating faith and psychology to offer holistic healing and support to individuals navigating life's challenges. My journey towards becoming a counselor rooted in Christian principles has been deeply personal and transformative, shaping both my professional approach and personal convictions. Through many seasons of darkness and uncertainty, it was my faith that provided me with hope, strength, and resilience. These experiences ignited within me a desire to walk alongside others on their own journeys towards healing and wholeness.

My specialties are trauma, anxiety, depression. 22 yrs experience counseling adolescents, adults, couples and families. I do supportive listening, accepting, understanding and compassionate counseling to help problem solve together and cope to focus on healing. Kinds of therapy I do: CBT, DBT, REBT, Art therapy, Play therapy and Christian counseling. Experience: worked with World Trade Center 9/11 survivors, survivors of torture, in a psychiatric hospital, an outpatient clinic, as a clinical supervisor, as a school based therapist, counseled military, their spouses & children at bases in USA, Europe and Japan and private practice.

I've been a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist (LCMHC) and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) for the past 10 years. I love what I do! I really enjoy helping individuals who struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, and setting healthy boundaries. We honor the courage it takes to ask and seek. Humans are meaning-makers, and we seek out answers, particularly to the hard questions around self and identity. Suffering is a part of the human experience, and the hardships of life have a way of giving us false answers to these questions of "who am I?" Difficult experiences fill us with beliefs such as "I am not enough" or perhaps "I am too much," or "I am shameful/unloveable/incapable/a bad parent/fill in the blank."
