The motivations for someone seeking therapy are as unique as the person seeking therapy. Some people desire to process past unresolved issues. Sometimes, people feel like they repeat patterns or are stuck in a situation and don't know how to do something different. Therapy can help a person process severe and troubling traumatic events. Counseling can help a person cope with recent upsetting events, such as the death of a loved one, or a sudden transition/loss, such as a relationship breakup.

I’ve personally faced many of life’s givens.
Often those things in life that are most difficult are natural parts of life, known as givens – Freedom, Death, Isolation, Meaninglessness. Being confronted with these givens can create anxiety, which can lead to significant consequences. Everyone who looks for a therapist does it because there is something that is blocking their happiness. It might be something external that caused you to look, but you have it within you to set yourself free. Waiting for the world, your boss, your significant other to make things better for you gives someone else control over your happiness.

I love being a biblical counselor because I love seeing God bring hope and change into the tender and difficult places of our relationships, emotions, and pains of life. It is such a privilege to be invited into the lives of my clients. I see clients with marital, parenting, and other relationship struggles. I see them as they are coping with trauma, grief, and the usual transitions and struggles of life. I see them as they engage with anxiety, depression, or the weight of guilt and shame. I would be thrilled to join you, for a time, along your path.

As for my existential orientation, how I understand the hu man condition is informed largely by a Judeo-Christian worldview.
Greetings! I consider myself a trauma-informed therapist whose practice is informed by various approaches to counseling. Some are more practical and used to address or better manage problems, and others are oriented toward increasing awareness and fostering personal growth. I have experience working with people with anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, behavioral and substance addictions, obsessive-compulsive tendencies and a history of trauma and related challenges.

I've been a therapist for over 19 years and feel uniquely suited to serve clients of all ages. I spent 10 years as a therapist for middle schoolers. Since 2015, I've been a therapeutic consultant helping families find treatment options for their adolescents and young adults. I've helped couples become more aligned and families develop their skills. In my work, I often hold someone's anxiety, foster their accountability process, and reflect insights from my perspective. I enjoy walking alongside my clients as they celebrate transitions, develop skills, and lead a value-driven life.

My primary focus in therapy – with individuals, couples or families – is to support and facilitate my clients in their journey to a deeper understanding and awareness of themselves. This goal is best achieved, I believe, by encouraging self-acceptance and insight, and by forming with each client a safe and nonjudgmental relationship. It is within this alliance that, together, we can explore, understand, and begin to gently dis mantle the obstacles and unproductive patterns of coping that, although once useful in dealing with painful life events or childhood relationships, may now be keeping them from enjoying a more fulfilling life.

I work with clients in a relaxed, informal, and professional way to promote emotional safety and comfort within the relationship so that they can process openly and authentically about meaningful and often sensitive topics. While experiencing this connection, people are able to gain presence, reflect on experiences and plan for personal maintenance, change and growth. Many clients enjoy both spending time in the office, taking walks, spending time in nature, and/or meeting virtually for telehealth sessions. I like to utilize physical activity, mindfulness, and ecotherapy for engagement and emphasizing overall health and wellness.

I work with people to discover the tools and techniques that will help them experience greater fulfillment in their relationships, work, mind, body, and spirit. Building your relational skill set can aid you with all your interactions: from strangers, acquaintances, and co-workers, to friends, family, your children, and your lover.

I work with relationships in many forms.
Each person comes to therapy for honest reasons. As we live, we often get overwhelmed, stuck, we suffer, and lose ourselves/others. Through cultural conditioning, we have forgotten to see the sacred in grief and honor what was. I get to join with others to help dissolve what is blocking them from their innate wisdom to know selves and connect with others. When I work with helping couples repair, I get to come alongside each person to help them not feel alone in their experience. I am an experienced relationship therapist (and work in progress). I enjoy helping people become more securely attached and live according to their values.

What does it REALLY mean to be holistic and integrative? It means - you are a universe of different thoughts, quirks, capabilities, physical attributes, emotions, neurological functions, shortcomings, and strengths. It means problems aren't created - or solved - in a vacuum. In order to truly heal, we have to address the relationships between mind, body, spirit, and emotions. We have to consider the Universe. I work with members of all faiths (Christian or not) to restore the connection between mental health, physical health and spiritual health.

I get to know you as a hu man.
Tactical Psychotherapy for men (not exclusively). Approachable, concrete, objective-based psychotherapy, broken down at the outset. Minimal psychobabble or frufoo. You know your concerns, others have opinions based on your behavior, you need a professional to help things make sense to you. Spill it. Find initial relief in three ways: a) top secret confidentiality; b) get understood and feel supported; c) no judgment. Find sustained relief by: a) identifying personal objectives as an individual and as a team member; b) utilize professional recommendations - you make adaptations (concrete and intangible). tacticaltherapy.net

The world is a complicated place. And sometimes the best way to make sense of it all is to sit down with someone and talk it out. When we begin to speak freely about ourselves, we gain not only the opportunity to be heard and understood- We begin to map the richly resourced, vast, and sometimes difficult terrain of our inner lives. In my experience, the best kind of conversation - the kind that heals, energizes & changes lives - is thoughtfully paced and as free as possible from the pressures and expedience that can sometimes rule our daily lives.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
