I have been trained as an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) trauma therapist and have a wide range of experience in working with children, adolescents, couples, individuals, families, and veterans.
From my experiences as a veteran, wife, daughter, mother, and a licensed marriage & family therapist, I have a great appreciation for the healing that can occur when life's difficulties are confronted and understood in the context of relationships. Research shows that more progress is made when individuals have natural supports involved in their treatment. These supports may come in the form of family members, friends, significant others, coworkers, or another professional in your life.

I am also trained in EMDR to help clients work through past trauma that is influencing their current well-being.
If you're reading this, I know you've reached the point where you have exhausted every option to manage your issues on your own. I've been there and I know what it's like to feel like stuck or like nothing can help. I also know what it's like to feel like even therapy won't help. But if you are reading this, I know you still have hope. I love working with teenagers and adults to help them see their own strength and resilience in order to identify, problem-solve, and overcome their challenges.

Trained in Cultural Responsiveness and addressing Cultural Trauma and Adversity using EMDR Therapy.
Resiliency is a word that gets thrown around a lot. But what does it really mean? For most of us it is about recovering quickly from adversity and learning new skills to keep moving forward. Resiliency is the key to better social, physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is also the result of positive relationships; optimistic realism; self-compassion; healthy coping skills; emotional intelligence; and finding meaning and purpose in life. Therapy is one tool for building resiliency and getting you to where you want to be.

I have successfully utilized EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) along with more traditional talk therapy to help people just like you.
10.16.24 - Colleague at my practice is accepting new clients for telehealth! Call for info! You have been through some things - things you choose not to talk about. You have been dealing with things in your own way, but it’s not working anymore. You need a place where you can talk. You want to know you won’t be judged. You want support and understanding. You are tired of these thoughts and memories coming up over and over. You are ready to move on from the nightmares, anger issues, anxiety, depression, and feeling stressed out. You want to have healthy relationships and be able to actually live life, instead of just making it.

Stacy Connor; Executive/Clinical Director employs 6 clinicians, ready to serve you; days, evenings & weekends. This is Stacy's profile: Everyone should know what it's like to feel Lovable, Capable, and Worthwhile. Instead of narrowing in on individual problems, psychotherapy considers overall patterns, chronic issues, and recurrent feelings. This requires an openness to exploring the past and its impact on the present. Psychotherapy resolves the underlying issues which fuel ongoing complaint/distress. I will work to get you on your way to wellness. Serving all of NC. I also offer clinical supervision for LCSW-A & LCAS-A & CSI.

My program is most successful with people who recognize they need change, are ready to change, and believe it’s possible. They can identify at least one problem or unreached goal and are committed to learning something new. The clients that experience the fastest changes are those most willing to consider new perspectives about their pain or people and try new approaches. We're not going to talk a lot about the whys, we'll address the what - what is wrong and what you want instead. If you're ready to release the trauma and embrace joy, forgiveness, and freedom, you're a great fit!

Welcome! I am a warm, non-judgmental and real person. One of my basic tenants is we, as people, are doing the best we can, and sometimes our conscious or subconscious "plan" to take care of ourselves is just not working anymore. Sometimes we need to develop a new “plan” but that can be difficult and we need help. The relationship with ourselves, family, friends and our community is a pillar to good health and well being. However things get in the way….like trauma, substance use, addiction, depression, anxiety, loneliness, illness, & fear. I want to support your concerns and help you improve your sense of wellbeing.

Hello, my name is Todd. Before I became a clinical social worker, I spent 22 years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. Before the Marine Corps, I was a two-time high school dropout. I have spent time on the streets, I have been locked up, and I have experienced some of the worst of what life can throw at a person. Are you looking for someone with a ton of book smarts, well I have that too. But, more importantly, I bring a level of understanding which is often lacking in the therapy world. I want to meet you where you are in life, walk beside you on your journey, and help carry your burden while we learn together.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
