These include EMDR, IFS, somatic and sensorimotor approaches, and Interpersonal Neurobiology.
Accepting new clients starting Jan 15th, 2024! Greg works to form a safe, attentive therapeutic relationship with people in much the same way a reader engages in a close and careful reading of a text. Careful listening to what people say they want to change, leads to the source of a problem, its roots. When the source is identified, interventions can be used to resolve it. Once resolved, people can move forward and grow again because they feel better, can focus on learning new skills and behaviors, and relate to others more positively.

I have a wide variety of skills in my toolbox, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Transforming The Experienced Based Brain (transforming touch).
Life can be challenging at times and wrought with frustrations, sadness or anxieties. However, with therapy, those challenges don't have to be insurmountable. I believe therapy is about guiding you toward an emotionally healthy path in order to create the life you desire. The fact that you are searching for a therapist who feels like a "good fit" for you or your family, is an important first step (and a very courageous one). My goal is to support you along your journey by providing a non-judgmental and respectful atmosphere, as we jointly work toward you finding personal contentment.

I am EMDR trained and work with clients experiencing anxiety, major life stressors, mood disorders, substance use, grief, emotional dysregulation, and more.
It can be exhausting to navigate life when isolated, facing one stressor after another, feeling depressed or anxious, or trying to recover from a traumatic experience. For many, these experiences interfere with day-to-day life such as our relationships, work, school, and more. For many, therapy can provide needed support. The most significant part of therapy is your relationship with your therapist, this is why I approach therapy by getting to know you as a whole person and use a collaborative approach to help empower your innate strengths.

You're already looking for a therapist, which means you know that you and/or your loved one deserve to live a mentally healthier life. My therapeutic style tends to be collaborative and trauma-informed, with the aim of all treatment being both long term healing and practical, client-based solutions. I believe that, while I bring psychological insight and therapy skills to the session, you are the expert on yourself and your family. Together, we can walk to a healthier life, whatever that looks like, because you (both) deserve it.

Life can be incredibly challenging, especially when you're dealing with the heavy weight of early life adversity, emotional scars, or relationship struggles. To feel emotionally overwhelmed, struggle with boundaries, or face ongoing relational issues is normal and completely understandable. These experiences can make it hard to see a way forward, but you're taking a brave step by seeking help. I believe there is a path to healing and it starts with a non-judgmental, affirming, and validating environment.

It's time: time to deal with the trauma and triggers that are holding you back. Life feels hectic, but taking care of yourself is important. You have to live with you the rest of your life and you're ready to make it better. You're determined now; you've made the decision to take care of yourself...AND you know you want some help doing it. What if you could connect to someone who could truly see how you're doing and not pass judgment? And what if having someone wisely walk with you will help your life improve?

Have you been told again and again that you are too sensitive, too emotional, too intense, leaving you feeling like there is something wrong with you? Do you feel overwhelmed by loud noises, crowds of people, bright lights and other stimuli? Maybe you long for the quiet of a darkened room during busy times, seeking relief from the intensity. You may have difficulty with managing your keen awareness of the moods and feelings of others. Or maybe perfectionism leaves you demanding even more of yourself than you ask of others. If you relate to any of this, you likely have a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) personality type.

Lately you’ve found yourself wondering: How can life be so difficult and hurt this much? You’re skilled at taking care of others, yet you often push your own needs aside. At times you’ve felt like an imposter — keeping up a facade of being accomplished, strong, and confident, but struggling on the inside. Perhaps you're facing depression, stress, grief, or current life changes or challenges. Or, you might be having intrusive thoughts about something that happened in the past, and it seems that none of your coping tools can help. For awhile, you’ve been feeling stuck and overwhelmed, and moving forward feels impossible.

First, let me acknowledge the courage it takes to reach out. I look forward to talking with you to find out more about what led you to seek counseling and to determine if we're a good fit. My theoretical orientation is primarily person-centered, which means that I believe that given a nonjudgmental, accepting space to explore issues, individuals can move towards growth and change. In addition to a person-centered approach, I frequently incorporate mindfulness into sessions, as well as techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. For clients interested in a more somatic approach, I use EMDR and EFT Tapping.

I believe that personal growth through counseling is possible when a collaborative trusting relationship is developed between a counselor and client. My role is not to give you all the answers, but to help you find your own answers and learn to make decisions that are healthy and align with your values and goals. As every person is different I feel it is important to develop a plan of action that is tailored to you and your lifestyle. I do try to incorporate physical and spiritual health along with mental health to ensure growth is lasting and comprehensive.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
